“Too far from the city center”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

This time we were 3 people travelling and we could not find a better deal as we booked from one day to another. The hostel is correct and clean but too far away from the center. The nearest public transport to the center was about 10 minuts walking. Pleasant to go down the street, but not so pleasant to go up the hill in early August :S. Also, we tried to get a double room and join the 2 individual beds, but the bedroom was so narrow that it made it impossible. We paid 48€ for a double room, but our colleague who was sleeping alone, also paid the 48€. We got a room with shower, but the toilets were located at the corridor. The kitchen was quite old and tiny. A bit hard to reach the internet from the room even if we were sleeping at the groundfloor. We also needed to pay for renting a ventilator as the rooms had no cooling and sleeping at the ground floor with the window open was not safe enough. After spending 2 months working in Budapest, I have stayed in better and cheaper places than City Hostel Buda.

To be hones, for what I expect of a hostel, this should get a 2 out of 5 at most! But then again, you get what you pay for ... If i remember corectly, we payed about 5€ a night so, its no suprise the hostel has about the same charm and appeal of a hospital.

I think the building is or used to be a dorm of a college or school or summin'. It lacks common rooms to meet fellow travelers, and other facilities or tours to offer something more than just a bed. Then again, thats what you get, thats what you pay for.

One good thing: every room has a bathroom

It looks like a student dorm, but the prices are very good. The rooms have two beds, and a basic cleaning room(shower & sink). In the room you can also find a refrigerator. Very nice staff, they speak fluently English and are very helpful. You can let the key at the reception when you go outside.

The city hostel buda is a university dorm when it's not a hostel, so if you go with that in mind you'll be fine! he rooms are basic, but nice and clean with a shower and sink. Toilets are down the hall, but that wasn't a problem for us. Receptionists speak English very well and are helpful (they called and booked taxis for me). There is a kitchen, but it is not open, you have to request a key. It was DISGUSTING. Dirty, with overflowing bins with raw food left to rot away I would not recommend using it.

The main downside for me was the distance from the main part of Budapest. Its around a 40 minute walk over the river, or a 15 minute taxi ride. There are shops and bars within 15 minute walk, but if you want to see the city its much further. Also, the walk back up is a killer! Overall, clean rooms, great price but a bit far out of the way

I would only recommend this hostel if you really have a tight budget. If you can afford something a little bit more expensive, make yourself a favour and don't stay here. The rooms are good sized, but the bathrooms are shared and in 4 days that I stayed there they were never cleaned, so it was disgusting. The location is good but not perfect.

at no point were we guests in this hostel. you need to give your passport to use the kitchen and then they want a deposit for a cup. there is no social atmosphere and the staff are pretty slow and less than helpful. the one redeeming feature was the price and and double rooms. the location is not too bad but a little hard to find.

this is not a hostel, this is a souless industrial sleeping machine

The hostel is a great place for a good visit, we were there for 3 nights and only had good experiences there. The rooms are comfortable and a great size, only thing to say about the rooms is that there is no aircondition. About the facilities i will say that, the system of renting kitchen tools is a bit annoying, every time you have to borrow a spoon or a plate, you will have to pay a deposit for each thing. You should also concider to buy some toiletpaper yourself, specially if you have had too much gullash, cause thier toiletpaper suck. The tram station is 5 minutes walk and from there you can use tram 47 and 49 to the center of the city in 10-15 minutes.
The staff is great and some hot receptionist.

Yumme Yumme..

We didn't have gullash.
