I would say this hostel is more like a hotel. We stayed in a private 4 bed room and it was amazing. I would say it's even better than the premier inns you get in the UK.
Friendly staff and a great location. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here in September last year and loved my visit. I had a bed in one of the shared dorms which was fine.

I was travelling alone, so it was nice to acquire company on my first night there.

The staff were so helpful and never batted an eyelid if you needed anything or had questions about the city, or facilities.

I was also impressed by the storage facilities and cleanliness.

Re the bathrooms, that they were so clean and had fab showers made my visit!

Location wise, this hostel is right by a metro station and an ideal location to go exploring from.

My husband and I stayed three nights at the Maverick Hostel in a private room. The room was spacious and clean, with a good bathroom. The building is beautiful and centrally located. We like to walk and found it handy for a number of places, but is also well served by the metro and buses. The staff were friendly and the hostel itself was very quiet.

I stayed at the Maverick Hostel for 4 nights on a solo trip. The staff greeted me kindly and quickly. They provided me with a free towel since I'd forgotten mine. They also gave me a lock and key to use for the lockers in the rooms. The hang out area at reception was cozy and inviting and also had desktop computers with internet access and guidebooks to use for free. All of these things I've taken for granted when going to other hostels.

Although it was a bit hard to find at first, I quickly learned that the hostel was in a prime area. I was always in walking distance of the meeting points for tours, good restaurants, and popular clubs and ruin pubs.

I stayed in a 6 bed female room, which was at times cramped if we all needed to get things out of our lockers. Wasn't a big issue for me since I could get ready in the lovely bathrooms they had. I loved my privacy curtain for my bed. It helped me sleep well to block out light. My bed was cozy and clean and I loved having a personal outlet as well as a light in case I wanted to read.

The bathroom are was bright and clean for the most part and plenty of sinks and a huge mirror to use for getting dolled up. The showers had a cool feature where you have to continuously push for a steady stream of water. I enjoyed that since it conserves water and it's more Eco-friendly than just having water run while you're trying to lather up. The little things make me happy. It was also easy to meet people, especially Thursday and Friday nights since more people showed up.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hostel if you're staying in Budapest :)

Room Tip: Try to request a bottom bunk to avoid the little ladders.

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at the Maverick Hostel and it's prompted me to post my first ever tripadviser review... So here goes:

The service we got from everyone we encountered on the front desk was fantastic. Matthew, Anna (on her first day) and Thomas all made the check in super easy after our early arrival.
The building is an awesome old-school apartment building with a grand old staircase that winds it's way up past some private residences.
We had a private double room on the 4th (top) floor - either a climb of 137 stairs or an intimate lift ride. We chose the stairs more often than not to help walk off the excesses of our trip. The room shares a kitchen with 3 or 4 other rooms in this converted apartment. Beware the cleaner's rigid adherence to the "if there's no name on your food it will be thrown out" policy, with our just purchased fruit falling victim to the purge.
The room itself was an okay size, the floor level bed comfortable and the bathroom adequate. Perhaps the only negative of our stay was the heat - with no aircon or fan, this room did get stifling hot at times.
The location is very convenient for all manner of public transport and a great base for starting many walks from. We would have walked about 25-30km in our 3 days there. There's also a good supermarket about 20m from the front door.
A very highly recommended nearby eating option is Ruben which is a 5 minute walk way in Magyar - far cheaper than the quality would suggest.

All up Maverick is a very good base to establish yourself at for a cracking stay in a wonderful city.

The selling point of this hostel is the bathroom! It is spacious with plenty of room to change. It's built in a old courthouse or something like that. The rooms have no bunk beds! The rooms were laid out really cool, they didn't try to cram in as many beds as they could like most hostels do. Free coffee and tea were also great!

Converted from one of the Hapsburg family's old hostels, stepping into the Maverick hostel takes you back to an older time. Simply walking through the staircase and the halls was wonderful.

It is rather hard to spot, and I got lost for an hour before finding it (as I have somehow done for every hostel I've stayed in so far) but if you get out on the right side of the metro you'll see the sign on the above the corner store to point you in the right direction (which is literally only 20 m from the right exit).

Aside from that it was clean, the staff and other guests were quite lovely and there was a kitchen on the 2nd floor as well as the reception area thus I would assume there's one in each part. The rooms were large and there were no bunk beds, though unfortunately the beds were not particularly comfortable for my tastes.

It's not just for young people either as there were middle aged - senior citizens as well as families with young children. And free palinka tastings a couple of nights a week! (Strawberry was delicious). Some nights you could also enjoy a traditional dinner at the hostel for something like 2 euro. If not, there are PLENTY of super cheap places to eat nearby and all around Budapest.

There's free tea and coffee all day and a really lovely bakery 2 doors down that had me sorted for a really cheap, delicious and filling breakfast each morning. I would recommend the mixed berry tea they had during my stay and from the bakery the sesame seed roll with a sausage in it and the sweet cheese strudel.

One night our sleep was disrupted by the fact that one of the guys decided to bring a girl back with him from the pub crawl into the 10 bed dorm and the sheer duration of their fornication caused some heated confrontation at 2:30am. However it made for some rather fun chit chat the next morning and I guess I got some FREE live porn with my stay :P

Overall a really pleasant experience. If I ever have the pleasure of returning to Budapest I will not hesitate to book another bed at the Maverick.
