“Nice decor - Poor staff/breakfast/security!!”
Reviewed 26 June 2014 via mobile

On arrival at the Marmara you think what a nice looking hotel. On entering the room again you think what a nice well decor room. You instantly think 'This stay is going to be great'.

The first morning we went for breakfast at 9am and we were extremely disappointed. The standard of food was good but the general lack of basics was a great concern. Soup bowls for cereals, no milk, no tea spoons, no cups for tea/coffee, no tea bags, cutlery not very clean and lots of plates have chips/cracks, the list goes on.
We then noticed the hot water container was empty so asked a waitress for more, she snapped and said 'Yes, just a minute, can't you see I'm busy'. Following the breakfast I emailed the hotel manager with our concerns and received a response back from the restaurant manager to apologise and offer us a drink at the bar. It wasn't a free drink we were after, merely better selection and the basics in the breakfast room, we turned down his offer.

The next day we had breakfast but decided to go down at 8am, same amount of guests, but well stocked breakfast items and all the basics apart from still the rude ignorant breakfast staff.

Following breakfast we returned to our room to find the room door wide open. The maid was on our floor but at the other end of the corridor. I went straight to reception and a young man came back to our room and I explained that we were not happy and he asked the maid who said she knew nothing about it and that I can't have closed the room door. Absolutely no chance of this happening as we are so security conscious!

So... Despite the hotel and room looking really nice, everything else is a let down, there seems to be a few major issues here at Marmara ... Staff and Security being the main factors.

We stayed in room 224 and could hear the chairs being dragged on the floor in the restaurant two floors below. Also the noise from other rooms via the ventilation in the bathroom.

Budapest is a lovely city, we will return next year, but we will not be staying at the Marmara, that's for certain!!

staff were friendly.

breakfast was quite good- quite a bit of choice

The rooms could do with a little smartening up but otherwise no complaints.

Around the corner from the Train Station

They recommended a great Hungarian restaurant and were helpful booking trips

We stayed in the Marmara for a three-night visit to Budapest with some friends. The rooms were clean and comfortable though the air conditioning was too noisy to use at night - a common problem in moderate priced hotels. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was adequate - no complaints. The location is very suitable for people on a short visit. It is within walking distance of the parliament buildings. We took a short taxi journey to the Central Market - well worth a visit - to begin our walk through the pedestrianised central area. The hotel is close to one of the stops on the Big Red Bus route. It's also within walking distance of the Octagon and the many restaurants near the Franz List Acadamy. Recommended for location and good value accomodation

We stayed in the Marmara for 5 nights costing a total of £180 between two of us and found it to be excellent value for money. It is well located close to public transport and plenty of shops and restaurants and is a leisurely stroll to most tourist sights.
The room was a decent size considering the price (and we only used it for showering and sleeping as we were out most of the time). The room has a TV, fridge, safe, air-con, kettle, hair dryer, shower, free wi-fi, and all the usual furniture. Okay, the TV only shows a few free English language programmes, and you have to pay for movies etc. but we never bothered and you will need to supply your own tea bags and milk. The decor is a little tired but it's not glaringly obvious and the rooms are serviced daily.
We thought the staff were very pleasant and helpful and gave good advice and tips. The free continental style breakfast was also very good and replenished regularly with plenty of choice.
Overall this was really good value for money in a nice quiet hotel in one of Europe's capital cities. We would recommend it and hope to stay there again next time we visit Budapest.

Room Tip: Try to get to breakfast early when its quiet.

Good location very near to trams. It cost £5 equivalent for 24 hour ticket to use on trams, metro and buses. Very easy to work the way around the transport system.Hotel room small and carpets in room and corridors stained. Free safe though was useful. Staff on arrival were very friendly but later staff were a little morose. Breakfast OK. Food fine. Plenty of choice.

Would i use this hotel again....no!

Spent three nights at the Marmara Hotel,it wasn't our choice of hotel as we had booked a two center deal with Secret Escapes. Good location for exploring the sights of Budapest. Some very good bars and restaurants, and a very large shopping center within walking distance.
Reception staff helpful and on the whole friendly. The room was a reasonable size but needed some TLC, the carpet was very stained and the shower cubicle could have done with a really good clean.
It was extremely hot whilst we were there, no air-con except for a built in fan in the room which was useless, we found that we could open the window in the room which gave some relief from the heat.
Breakfast was a shambles, staff could not cope with the number of guests, tables not cleared, lack of cutlery, glasses, bowls etc. Poor choice of food which wasn't replenished when it ran out and the toaster was so slow it wasn't worth the wait.
This could be a good hotel if some relatively minor changes were brought in.

This is a handily placed hotel for exploring Budapest but rather in need of sprucing up.I have never been in a hotel before where you had to pay for CNN and tea and coffee in the room. You can imagine yourself back in communist times. Some of the staff are friendly but otheres are rather glum.Breakfast was very dull and uninspiring. No restaurant and a tiny bar.Would not go back.
