On arrival at the Marmara you think what a nice looking hotel. On entering the room again you think what a nice well decor room. You instantly think 'This stay is going to be great'.
The first morning we went for breakfast at 9am and we were extremely disappointed. The standard of food was good but the general lack of basics was a great concern. Soup bowls for cereals, no milk, no tea spoons, no cups for tea/coffee, no tea bags, cutlery not very clean and lots of plates have chips/cracks, the list goes on.
We then noticed the hot water container was empty so asked a waitress for more, she snapped and said 'Yes, just a minute, can't you see I'm busy'. Following the breakfast I emailed the hotel manager with our concerns and received a response back from the restaurant manager to apologise and offer us a drink at the bar. It wasn't a free drink we were after, merely better selection and the basics in the breakfast room, we turned down his offer.
The next day we had breakfast but decided to go down at 8am, same amount of guests, but well stocked breakfast items and all the basics apart from still the rude ignorant breakfast staff.
Following breakfast we returned to our room to find the room door wide open. The maid was on our floor but at the other end of the corridor. I went straight to reception and a young man came back to our room and I explained that we were not happy and he asked the maid who said she knew nothing about it and that I can't have closed the room door. Absolutely no chance of this happening as we are so security conscious!
So... Despite the hotel and room looking really nice, everything else is a let down, there seems to be a few major issues here at Marmara ... Staff and Security being the main factors.
We stayed in room 224 and could hear the chairs being dragged on the floor in the restaurant two floors below. Also the noise from other rooms via the ventilation in the bathroom.
Budapest is a lovely city, we will return next year, but we will not be staying at the Marmara, that's for certain!!
