“Should be better”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

They say that this hotel has 4 stars..unfortunately the level of service was not good enough. the biggest problem was the room. It was quite dirty inside and the room was very dark (but trust me! it was really really dark - they should invest in some better ligths inside the rooms.) we also had breakfast and here is another minus. for five days everyday you get the same food and not so tasty as it should be..but i have to say that the location was very good :) ad the crew also was very pleasant and helpfull :) and there is a restoration process in hotel so be carefull !

Room Tip: room with a view on the street!

The hotel is in a good location for sight seeing in Budapest. In contrary to other reviewers, the breakfast is more then adequate with a good selection of food (both hot and cold) for the low price we paid for the hotel.

It appears that there was a vision of grandeur for the hotel however it has fallen short. The hotel could do with a good cleaning throughout. This place has great potential if it was to rectify some issues.

Marmara hotel was a great place to stay for a few days break. Ideal location, only a short walk to the Parliament and river bank. Room was great and comfy, everything in good condition and beds very comfy indeed.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and are always on hand to answer questions or help with directions across the city.
Breakfast was good and there is always enough.
Would very much recommend this hotel :)

We had a lovely stay in the Marmara Hotel. We visited as part of our trip around Europe between the 25th and 28th June 2014. The room was extremely comfortable and although it was quite small it was cosy, warm and well-equipped. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was hot. We had a TV and very good WiFi. The hotel was in a good location that was safe and close to a number of different Metros which would allow you to get to the centre of Budapest in a matter of about 10 minutes. Their was a nice wide range at breakfast and some parts of the meal changed each morning, which was a nice touch. There was bread, pan au chocalat, tomatoes, cheese, yoghurt, fried chorizo, scrambled egg, juices, coffee, tea and plenty more. The hotel was well worth the cheap cost and we would definitely return and recommend it to our friends - Marmara Hotel is a lovely hotel in the heart of Budapest.

We stayed here for 4 nights during a holiday in Budapest.

The hotel is located in the parliament district close to the St Margaret Bridge and Parliament building. There is a metro station less than 5 mins walk away and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within a ten minute walk, also near to the West End centre on Vaci ut. It's about 20 minute walk to the actual centre around Deak Square. The location was great for us.

The hotel was being refurbished when we stayed, but did not disturb us at all as the work was done during the late morning/afternoon.

The entrance hall is impressive, and the room was designed and refurbished to a high standard. Staff were very friendly and spoke perfect English, every time we entered/left the hotel someone said hello/goodbye.

The breakfast was adequate for us (toast, cereals, croissants is our usual) but is by no means a full English if that is what you want (they had scrambled eggs, frankfurters, chorizo and mushrooms along with cheese and cold meats).

The only negatives were the bed was hard (not a problem for me personally but my partner took a couple of nights to adjust), the shower temperature was quite intermittent and in the morning you could hear the chairs in the breakfast room being scraped around downstairs. Aside from this I don't have any other criticism.

Overall I enjoyed my stay there, would definitely recommend it and would stay there again if we happened to be in Budapest.

On arrival at the Marmara you think what a nice looking hotel. On entering the room again you think what a nice well decor room. You instantly think 'This stay is going to be great'.

The first morning we went for breakfast at 9am and we were extremely disappointed. The standard of food was good but the general lack of basics was a great concern. Soup bowls for cereals, no milk, no tea spoons, no cups for tea/coffee, no tea bags, cutlery not very clean and lots of plates have chips/cracks, the list goes on.
We then noticed the hot water container was empty so asked a waitress for more, she snapped and said 'Yes, just a minute, can't you see I'm busy'. Following the breakfast I emailed the hotel manager with our concerns and received a response back from the restaurant manager to apologise and offer us a drink at the bar. It wasn't a free drink we were after, merely better selection and the basics in the breakfast room, we turned down his offer.

The next day we had breakfast but decided to go down at 8am, same amount of guests, but well stocked breakfast items and all the basics apart from still the rude ignorant breakfast staff.

Following breakfast we returned to our room to find the room door wide open. The maid was on our floor but at the other end of the corridor. I went straight to reception and a young man came back to our room and I explained that we were not happy and he asked the maid who said she knew nothing about it and that I can't have closed the room door. Absolutely no chance of this happening as we are so security conscious!

So... Despite the hotel and room looking really nice, everything else is a let down, there seems to be a few major issues here at Marmara ... Staff and Security being the main factors.

We stayed in room 224 and could hear the chairs being dragged on the floor in the restaurant two floors below. Also the noise from other rooms via the ventilation in the bathroom.

Budapest is a lovely city, we will return next year, but we will not be staying at the Marmara, that's for certain!!
