“Good choice for Budapest trip.”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

+ Big, nice and clean hotel, with excellent breakfast, comfy bed and good position. Helpful staff. Reasonable price.
- The room is a little small. Parquet floor, no slippers. The elevator worked only with the room card inserted. Parking a little expensive, but this is Budapest. Got a room facing the inside courtyard made of 4 tall empty walls...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with street view. Mine was facing a wall and it was a little depressing.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for being our guest. I’m sorry to hear that you had a few negative experiences as well. It is very difficult to meet all the expectations – some people find the rooms suitably large while others find them a bit small. When you visit us again please let us know in advance what kind of room location you prefer and we will take your request into consideration as much as possible.
The card system in the hotel and at the elevator serves the safety of our guests. I know that this is sometimes uncomfortable but the safety of our guest is the most important for us.

You are most welcome any time at our Hotel.

Best regards,

Thi slook slike a boutique hotel-if larger-gets tour groups. Ha sindoor and outdoor pools. As others have said, the buffet breakfast is much more lavish than it needs to be---great breads, fresh beggies, fresh fruit, nespresso machines for all permutations of coffee, lovely seating. Efficient. A little stingy with little soaps.

If money is no object, stay at the beautiful Four Seaons-otherwise here.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing our Hotel. I’m glad that you enjoyed our breakfast – we use only the freshest ingredients and we offer original Italian coffee made of 100% Arabica.

One of our long term goals is the sustainable development so that we provide the best service without damaging our environment. Therefore we would like to avoid the unnecessary waste of any materials for example the soap. But whenever you need more our maids are happy tp provide you more.

It is very complimenting coparing our hotel with Four Seasons. We should be greatly obliged if you would repeatadly visiting us time to time – instead of the Four Seasons.

Many thanks and best regards,

What an extremely pleasant place to stay. Our impressions were good straight from the off. We arrived mid-evening and lo and behold a coach full of guests were waiting in the foyer to check in. Not our day and a bit of a wait so we thought, but we were surprisingly wrong. We received a kindly nod and it was straight to the desk for check in. We handed over our downloaded room upgrade to Daniel at the desk and received a Deluxe Room upgrade. It was brilliant value for money.

Sixth floor facing the courtyard and as tidy a room you could wish to have. Modern, quiet and of medium size with a beautifully tiled bathroom to wash away the travel miles. It was just the job. One slight blemish was the lighting which could have been a lot stronger for shaving and to help my wife in applying the war paint! The bed was big, a little on the firm side but nice and clean. The air con worked a treat which was required for day time temperatures reaching 25-28 degrees. We had a kettle; tea & coffee but bring your own if you prefer your own brands. The cleaner was very obliging and the bed was made up and towels changed for the three days we were there. There were also complimentary bottles of still and gassy water plus a fridge with mini-bar if you wanted it. A hair drier was located in the bathroom. There were eight coat hangers in the wardrobes and sufficient drawers for what we needed. There were around 10 channels on the TV (one English – BBC World) but to be quite honest we weren’t visiting this lovely city to watch TV.

Breakfast was bountiful with lots of stuff to choose from but because it was so busy they often ran out of things. But if you asked the staff they attended to it as quickly as they could. Hot & cold food, various coffees, fruit juices, cereals, breads, fruit were available and of excellent quality.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated in a modern way. High ceilings, extremely clean with quality furniture all over. Apart from breakfast, we chose to eat elsewhere although the restaurant looked pretty busy when we were there.

Also:

• The location of the hotel was very useful for us also as it was just a 5-10 minute walk to the Astoria Hotel where we could pick up the Hop-on Hop-off bus (red & yellow routes). The bus cost 4500 HUF’s (around £13.50 each) each but you get 2 days plus a river cruise. Great for taking photos.
• The airport shuttle can be booked on-line from the airport shuttle site or at the airport. It takes around 35 minutes one way. You will need to ask the hotel receptionist to phone the Shuttle number 24 hours before you depart to book the return. They will give you a departure time. I can’t remember the cost but it was pretty reasonable.
• We paid 6 euros each for use of the Wellness centre situated on the roof of the hotel. A heated stainless steel pool (not big but big enough), Jacuzzi & Sauna plus some sun beds. Can I tell you it was well worth it after miles of walking during the hot day sightseeing around the city.
• The city itself it extremely picturesque with masses of beautifully crafted statues and amazing buildings. Everywhere we visited was clean and everyone we met had a grasp of English and were very friendly and courteous.
• The hotel is about a 20 minute flat walk to the Danube, 15 mins to the main shopping area and 5-7 mins to the nearest tourist site i.e. the synagogue. The nearest Metro station is not very far away either.
• There is a pub about 2 minutes away to the left of the front door of the hotel which served food all day & most of the night. Quite tasty food and the drinks were quite reasonable too.
• Take a meal in the Café Lado also to the left of the hotel. It’s a step back in time and worth it just to see the locals dance to the Ladies Swing Band. The food was pretty decent too.

In summary: I can thoroughly recommend the Continental Zara hotel as a stop-over for anyone visiting the lovely city of Budapest. The staff are very friendly, courteous and obliging.

Room Tip: Download the Tripadvisor upgrade flyer as it worked for us

Our selection of this hotel as a useful base for exploring Budapest was a wise one. Modern, clean with helpful cheerful staff.
Corridors a little narrow but public places airy and spacious.

Room Tip: a lomg walk fro the lifts unless you take a room at the end of the corridor and use the back lift

My Mom and I were somewhat disappointed with our choice of hotel in Budapest; I really don't get all the glowing reviews....maybe we had a lousy room because despite researching previous reviews, I think we didn’t make the best pick. The location was pretty good (only 10 minute walk from hop on/hop off tour) but if I went back again, I’d definitely stay at the Marriott or InterContinental or the Hilton, which all have much better locations within the city. Our hotel may have been 4 star, but the room was definitely 3 star…it was tiny and had a small bathroom with a smaller shower. The hotel staff was ok…not particularly friendly at check in or checkout and the lady at the coffee area was decidedly unfriendly. The housekeeping did do a good job of keeping the room clean but amenities usually found in 4 star rooms (robes, slippers, etc) were not available. The hallways were grungy and dated (at least on our floor); it just didn't feel like a 4 star hotel. Downstairs is beautiful but upstairs looked more like a mediocre hotel. If you look at my other reviews, you can see I'm not really picky and am usually quite generous with rating but I just can't give this one a 4 or 5.
One great point about this hotel is the pools. The outdoor and indoor pool were fabulous especially after an unusually warm day of sightseeing in the city.

Dear Guest,

I was sorry to read that our hotel did not meet yur glowing expectations. Since our hotel is in the downtown in a silent side street and has 4 stars only it is not reasonable to compare it with the 5 star hotels on the Danube. Slippers, bathrobes and even kettles are not standard amenities in the standard rooms, I agree, but all are available on request. I think the characterization of our hallways are a question of taste. I apologize of any of our staff members did not provide you the proper service. Hereby I thank you for your compliment son the room cleaniness and on the roof top wellness area.

Many thanks and best regards,

Stayed here last weekend in a group of 8, could not fault it whatsoever. Firstly, fast and friendly airport pick-up from the concierge team was excellent and great value. As soon as you arrive in the door the concierge staff are wrestling your baggage from your hands to help, for a speedy and efficient check in. All 4 of our rooms were upgraded without charge, including 1 room that had been booked in the sister hotel 10 mins away by mistake. As soon as we realised the mistake (on our part), staff at the hotel were extremely helpful to put it right, and this did not cause a problem at all. We were all accommodated in the same hotel as soon as possible (the next day). The rooms were very nice, with everything you need including robes and slippers, which were not expected due to the excellent value price we paid. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice to cater for every taste and a great Americano, so much so that I could manage without English Tea for a few days! Good location, within walking distance of the Danube, bars and restaurants, and lots of attractions. If you don't fancy the walk, Concierge will book taxis which arrive in minutes and even recommend places to eat. We took their advice and went to Spoon on the river, in the shadow of Buda and the palace - fantastic lit up at night. Insider tip: take photos before midnight as they turn the lights off!!!! I have to say, it was the best food I have ever tasted, absolutely divine, and 2 courses with lots of wine cost less than 30 GBP including service!! Could not recommend this hotel and Budapest in general enough - I will be back there ASAP!! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay xxx PS the male species in Budapest are REALLY handsome!!! :)

Room Tip: Buildings on all sides of the hotel, so not really a good view to be had, but mine was overlooking t...

Dear Lynn,

Thank you for your comprehensive picture about your experiences. I’m very happy that your problems around your room booking got quickly solved. I believe that the excellent service is the key for the perfect relaxation so that you don’t have to deal with every day troubles.
Our receptionists and concierges visit all restaurants before they recommend them, these is why the only high quality places are taken into account.

Let me mention that if you wish to taste real English Tea in Budapest next time please also visit our Galery Café or ARAZ Restaurant.

You are most welcome at any time at our Hotel.
