An excellent, no frills place. Simple and delicious vegetarian pub food, good local and foreign beers, Hungarian wines, and if you care - pálinka (different local fruit brandy shots).
Very friendly stuff at the counter - do not expect table service though.
Have been there many times, and once even invited my steak-loving carnivore friend - he was positively surprised after the first glass of wine :-).
In a nutshell - it is a good place out of the beaten tourist routes for some genuine Hungarian pub feeling.
Also, there are free board games if you are interested. Free WIFI.

This is vegan hippie food and it is really good. The food is great, the beer is great, the atmosphere is fun and casual. It really reminds me of places in the 1970's in small towns where being real was the most important thing. It's worth the walk out of the tourist area to eat here, but be warned it won't appeal to uptight business types or tourists who want the "real" Hungarian experience. For everyone else it's fantastic. Try the locally brewed dark beer. And, before you go get a sticker with their cute cat logo!

One important note: It seems a street name has changed so what appears on Google maps is not what appears on easily obtainable printed budapest maps. Before heading out know exactly where you are heading. Second, we had a hotel receptionist tell us not to go into that area, as it was dangerous because of gypsies. Maybe this was someone trying to protect tourists from anything non mainstream, or maybe it was a touch of racism. The area is completely safe and full of families.

This is a nice little eatery with a bar popular amongst locals. I think we were one of the few tourists that came here. However the food was good and cheap, even for Hungarian standards.

We walked quite a ways to get there, but it was worth it. Very kind and gentle service, wholesome food, and I agree with the black IPA beer comment, a must in your order! Nothing fancy.

We shared a pita plate and had a quesadilla each and really liked it. Great vegetarian pub food which was pretty cheap. The star of the show though, was the black IPA the staff recommended. Even if the food had been bad, I would still have rated them 5 for that alone! (and if the owners read this, I would definitely like the name of this beer as it has escaped me ;) )
