“Big disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2014

From our arrival to the hotel i had a bad feeling. Upon check in we were given a room with 3 twin beds. It would be ok if i was with my friends but i came with my girlfriend. Of course this was not an easy task as they told me they are full and that if i have a problem with beds i can join them together. So after more complaining and explaining that i work in hotels and that this crap we are full won't work on me they gave us the room we payed for.

When i got to the room another shock. 5th and 6th floors were added recently to the building and although it was new you could see pipes in the bathroom, walls were so thin i can hear ppl in room next to ours talking...

Breakfast was the worst i have ever seen in my life and to be honest I've been to 2 stars hotels with 10 times better breakfast. We came around 9 and there was no knives left nor forks. Service ladies were just standing there and talking. All the tables were full of dirty plates that ppl before us left.

Biggest problem that happened was the locked doors on the 4th floor. This may sound stupid but this was fire escape route. First day i was ok, second day little bit angry and third day so angry that i told them that i will report them to authorities. This is a serious violation of the law. Imagine if there was a fire. All ppl above 4th floor would be dead.

Another problem is elevator. It can fit only 2 ppl with suitcases and max 3 without. If you want to go to 5th or 6th floor u need to pres number 5 or 6, 5 times. This is not an easy task if you do it to fast or to slow. U need to be precise so you will need couple of days to get it right.

All in all this is one of the worst hotels i have been 2 and i would not recommend it to any one.

This is an ideal place to stay if you want 'somewhere to sleep'. We went to Budapest for a weekend break and spent all day and most of the evening seeing the sights and sampling the local food and drink, so the Silver Hotel was great for bed-and-breakfast. It was quite 'basic' but ideally situated for access to the main features - with the help of a map you can walk to most of the points of interest within 10-30 mins. and the hop-on-hop-off buses run nearby. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was simple 'continental', the staff were friendly and helpful, but if your looking for The Ritz then look elsewhere.

I stayed here 2 nights in November 2013. The location is pretty good, located between heroes plaza and the city center. The room isn't too bad considering the low price. The bad definitely outweighs the good here though. Our bathroom smelled like the sewage pipe was backed up. We were constantly being woken up by noises in the courtyard so the second night we had to wear earplugs. The worst part about this hotel is that we were staying on the fifth floor and the elevator was being worked on the morning after our first stay. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal because I like taking stairs anyway. However, the only set of stairs had a locked gate blocking us from going down further than the fourth floor. Not only was this inconvenient but it is a major safety hazard. We were stuck on the fourth floor for 30 minutes and if there was a fire we would have been screwed. I asked the receptionist if there was another set of stairs or if there was a reason for the gate being locked. He shrugged it off and said the security guard must be in the bathroom. When we came back to our room later that night there was still no security guard at this gate. So I wouldn't stay here again out of fear of being trapped on the fifth floor during a fire. Oh, the breakfast is actually pretty good here.

Hotel is situated almost in the centre of budapest so it's really easy and close to get everywhere by foot. We walked all the time to most of the attractions and you have a great place to have a beer near (Ring cafe) there is also burger king and a lot of coffee shops. Just a few minutes away. It's also really easy to find the hotel. Staff was really pleasant, room was clean and warm and foe that price you couldn't get anything better. If I'll ever go to budapest again I'll stay there again. There is also 5min drive to a guarded parking place, we paid for 3 daya approximately €5.

The location of the hotel was excellent. Easy to go out and walk around Budapest. There were many restaurants near the hotel.

The room was clean and there were clean towels. Nice and beautiful bathroom. Soap, but no shampoo or hairdryer. Sometimes there was some noise especially in the morning and night. Earplugs and the problem was solved.

Service in the reception was great. They always helped us. Thank you :)

I recently stayed here as a friend of mine was supposed to be taking part in the Budapest Marathon and this hotel was ideally situated to be able to make a quick dart to the start in Hero's Square. He had booked very early and had a triple room with an external door to a balcony with a view out over the local park and to be fair his room was very good, en-suite, mini fridge, air-con and small kitchenette sink unit.
I made the decision to join him about a week before travelling and booked a double room.
When we got there I found out my room was in fact a twin, a pain as i like a double bed, but not the end of the world. But the main problem was no air-con, fridge didn't work, en-suite was if anything larger than my friends, very clean and i couldn't fault it at all, but the room was SO hot with no window to the outside for ventilation and only an electrical fan to try and cool you off, I don't do well in the heat and consequently despite the bed being comfortable, didn't sleep well at all and had to have the fan on all night............now this was early - mid October, it would of been stifling in high season.
Last time I was in Budapest I stayed at Le Meridian which was such a different experience and I guess goes to show you get what you pay for.
I would stay here again, but would make sure I had one of the triple rooms with outside door to balcony even if staying alone, it was after all only about £120.00 for 3 nights if booked early enough.
Location wise, great.......a stones throw from the closest Metro line which connected to the central Metro hub within about 7 stops (10 mins), very efficient, clean and safe.
If you are travelling on a budget and want to spend your time out and about exploring and not expecting to be able to use hotel bars, restaurants and general facilities you could do worse, try it.........what do you have to lose.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with an external door out to the balcony to ensure fresh air.
