“Nothing great”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

We stayed for 3 nights.

The entry to this hotel is via a buzzer just like gaining entry to an apartment. Reception not accessible from the road. All you see is two big black locked doors controlled by the buzzer.

Note they only supply liquid hand soap, no shower gel or soap or shampoo. When we asked for these at reception, we were directed to a local shop. On the first afternoon we discovered that the shower head did not attach to the wall due to broken fixings. Also one of the curtains had come of the rails. These points should have been picked up by cleaner/housekeeper before the room was ever given to a guest. The shower was fixed within a day. The curtain was never fixed.

The double rooms are described as having a bidet and a hairdryer, the room we had, room 412 had neither of these.

In order to get breakfast, everyday we needed to collect a token from reception and hand it in. In most hotels the breakfast/kitchen area maintain a list of those who can have breakfast. Breakfast is served on the top (6th) floor. The choice of breakfast was bread, rolls, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, cheese, ham, sausages, cereals, yogurts, juices, tea, coffee and water. No fruit on any of the days. Generally the breakfast is good.

The plus for this hotel is that the staff are friendly.

Cleaning was undertaken on a daily basis. On the last day we received one towel with two holes in it, not acceptable.

Given the choice I would stay elsewhere and pay that little bit more.

For the price paid, I think it was an absolute steal. Rooms were in good condition, breakfast was fantastic, staff were friendly and helpful and the structure of the hotel was pleasantly unique. Bed wasn't the best but was still able to sleep well so no complains there. Would recommend the place and would definitely stay again.

The hotel is positioned very close both to the Metro and also Liszt Ference Square which has some amazing restaurants. The metro gives access to Buda and Pest with ease.

There are supermarkets close and many restaurants to choose from.

It is an old apartment building , originally 3 stories, with an additional 3 stories added for the hotel. The original 3 stories are permanent residents.

The rooms are badly (cheaply) furnished with extra beds crammed into the rooms.

Unless you have a front room, you only get a small window opening to the walkway.

There is a small external elevator which only holds 2 people with minimal luggage and as it services all floors it can get busy.

There is a staircase and other reviews have mentioned a locked gate that prevents exiting via the bottom private floors. When we were there this gate was unlocked. If it was locked in the event of a fire it would be a catastrophe.

Reception is OK but not really friendly. We had to ask for the heating to be turned on.

Breakfast is basic - cornflakes, toast, cheese eggs etc.

The TV is very old, the old CRT type prior even to the very first flat screens and it only shows local shows with no English.

In summary it may be worth about $40/night for the position but I would not stay again.

From our arrival to the hotel i had a bad feeling. Upon check in we were given a room with 3 twin beds. It would be ok if i was with my friends but i came with my girlfriend. Of course this was not an easy task as they told me they are full and that if i have a problem with beds i can join them together. So after more complaining and explaining that i work in hotels and that this crap we are full won't work on me they gave us the room we payed for.

When i got to the room another shock. 5th and 6th floors were added recently to the building and although it was new you could see pipes in the bathroom, walls were so thin i can hear ppl in room next to ours talking...

Breakfast was the worst i have ever seen in my life and to be honest I've been to 2 stars hotels with 10 times better breakfast. We came around 9 and there was no knives left nor forks. Service ladies were just standing there and talking. All the tables were full of dirty plates that ppl before us left.

Biggest problem that happened was the locked doors on the 4th floor. This may sound stupid but this was fire escape route. First day i was ok, second day little bit angry and third day so angry that i told them that i will report them to authorities. This is a serious violation of the law. Imagine if there was a fire. All ppl above 4th floor would be dead.

Another problem is elevator. It can fit only 2 ppl with suitcases and max 3 without. If you want to go to 5th or 6th floor u need to pres number 5 or 6, 5 times. This is not an easy task if you do it to fast or to slow. U need to be precise so you will need couple of days to get it right.

All in all this is one of the worst hotels i have been 2 and i would not recommend it to any one.

This is an ideal place to stay if you want 'somewhere to sleep'. We went to Budapest for a weekend break and spent all day and most of the evening seeing the sights and sampling the local food and drink, so the Silver Hotel was great for bed-and-breakfast. It was quite 'basic' but ideally situated for access to the main features - with the help of a map you can walk to most of the points of interest within 10-30 mins. and the hop-on-hop-off buses run nearby. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was simple 'continental', the staff were friendly and helpful, but if your looking for The Ritz then look elsewhere.
