“Nice and clean”
Reviewed 30 April 2013

Lowcostel is located a couple of kms by foot from downtown Budapest on the Pest side. It is very lose to the city park and a lot of attractions such as Scheneyi bathhouse, Hosok Tere, Vajdahunyad castle and so on. I am a walker, so the walk from the hostel to downtown area along Andrassi St was great in my perspective. It took about 45 minutes with me walking at my own pace and stopping for photos etc along the way. The kitchen is nice and tidy with all utensils needed. That was something I liked personally. And they have free parking which was one reason I chose this hostel, as I was driving. The staff are very friendly, helpful and informative. Overall an excellent hostel (and very economical too; I paid 6.60 per night last week of April and stayed for 6 nights). Only one thing that can be improved, in my opinion, is the pillows which are in a real poor shape...but again, that is only a suggestion.

I was looking for a short and cheap vacation to Budapest. In the Internet I found that one for only 9€ per night. I didn't expected to much for the price. Even if the location is not the best, but you can get very fast and easy by public transport into the city. The owners are very nice and help you with anything. You also get free WiFi and you have a free locker. All in all the accomodation was perfect. Right now I'm Australia for a year and living only in hostels over here and over here you don't get a hostel for under 24$ usually and mostly they're not that comfortable as that one was. Thanks a lot,
Lars

To be honest I don't know what I expected. The name "Lowcostel" brought to mind somewhere pretty poor and dirty. In fact, this place was incredibly well presented and clean. The bunks were great, the bathroom was very good, the lockers were good and the wifi signal was better than my one at home! My only real qualms were the lack of a free breakfast (but hey! It was cheap, right?) and the location - half an hour's walk from the real centre. I suppose you could take public transport if you're not up to walking that, and I doubt it's too expensive.

The price was excellent, very very good value for money, and for that reason I would definately reccomend Lowcostel. The Hostel itself is small, with only a private double room and one dorm, with a shared kitchen, bathroom, toilet and lounge (with satelite TV and WIFI), so it was kitted out pretty well. Only complaint was the toilet room was very small, a little dated and could have been cleaner, however this is only a minor complaint, and overall, we would definately reccommend it. Also the chap running the place was a top guy, very helpful.

Our first impression was that it was a little out of town, but then we got used to the public transport, and there's a metro station 5 mins walk away and a bus stop to the town centre 2 mins away, so that makes it easier.

Room Tip: The Hostel has one dorm and one double room, they all share a toilet and a shower

No doubt about it: I've been very lucky to find this place, which btw I've booked almost "blindly", just according to the very cheap room-price! The location is very good: in a safe and quiet area, you have the tram n.1 (the "ring line") stopping right outside, the Mexicoi út underground station at about 5 minutes walk and the Zugló railway station at about 15 minutes by walk (or less than 5 by tram). There are also some restaurants nearby, and a small 24h shop where you can buy snacks and something to eat. It's also very close to sightseeing attractions: 5 minutes by walk to the beautiful Varosliget city park, the Szechényi bath just round the corner and a 10-minutes-ride by tube to the core of the town. Inside is very cosy, clean most of the time and all in all quiet at night (as long as "party people" remember to close the kitchen door ;-)). Moreover, being a small place (it's only two rooms, actually) you also have more chances to meet people and make new friends. Denis, the owner, is a very nice and helpful guy, who knows a lot about Budapest and always makes his best to keep the place tidy and make you feel "at home".
The breakfast's not included, but you can easily fix one your own in the provided kitchen. Bath towels are also provided, but remember to keep them till the end of your stay, because they don't get changed daily!
