4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

For 6 euros a night I was slightly skeptical, but after seeing the reviews I thought why not. Turns out it really is good value for money. The location isn't great, but there is good public transport nearby so not too much of an issue. It's clean, has a fully equipped kitchen and the wifi is excellent.

I do agree with the previous reviewer that it doesn't quite look like the pictures shown but it's definitely not a dump. There's also electricity plugs for every bed which is a bonus

the hotel is 1-1,5 hour by foot from the centre / Keleti railway station, but close to the Zoo, Vidam park (which, unfortunately, was closed), famous thermal baths, beautiful park or the Heroes´ Square....Dennis was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and very nice. I appreciate the free towels. Would have appreciated towel for the floor in the bath and key at the toilet downstairs, but overall the place is very nice and worth the price.

Completely baffled by previous reviews. Visited this hostel only two weeks ago and the photos on the website here and at other sites such as hostelbookers etc, do not match the actual hostel! The image of the modern tv room DOES NOT EXIST, instead we were shown the half plastered common room with dirty sofas. Red bedroom is also confusing as we did not see this either. Dennis the owner is helpful and nice but the location of this hostel is completely NOT WORTH THE PRICE.
It's a bus ride away from the main centre - not useful after spending a night in a bar. There are plenty of hostels within the actual centre of Budapest which are only a few more pounds a night. We cut our stay here short due to this reason. The 6 bed is also cramped and you are expected to make your beds yourself...
Never met Anna, sorry Dennis but the hostel is really not worth the cheap price for the location - pay 2 pound more and be in the centre!

I hadn't expected much of this place given the extremely low price, so was very pleasantly surprised to find a fabulous hostel - Dennis and Anna are extremely friendly and welcoming, the location is not that central but easily accessible and close to some interesting places. Highly recommended.

If you are going to Budapest because of the baths, Lowcostel is just down the street. It's the best bath in Budapest. That's one reason to stay at this hostel. Low cost is another. It's clean, friendly, has a good kitchen and very helpful in finding places that interests you. Anna and Dennis were very knowledgeable. I would recommend this hostel if you are not wanting to stay at a traditional, large hostel. It's smaller and is the bottom floor of a building so it's convenient. It's also close to the Metro, so if you are coming into any of the bus, plane or train terminals it's easy to walk to after you get off at Mexikoi ut station. There is also a day and "night" bus 973 that brings you very close which is good if you want to go out for a late night party. The Metro stops at around 11:30pm. I would definitely recommend this hostel.

Lowcostel is located a couple of kms by foot from downtown Budapest on the Pest side. It is very lose to the city park and a lot of attractions such as Scheneyi bathhouse, Hosok Tere, Vajdahunyad castle and so on. I am a walker, so the walk from the hostel to downtown area along Andrassi St was great in my perspective. It took about 45 minutes with me walking at my own pace and stopping for photos etc along the way. The kitchen is nice and tidy with all utensils needed. That was something I liked personally. And they have free parking which was one reason I chose this hostel, as I was driving. The staff are very friendly, helpful and informative. Overall an excellent hostel (and very economical too; I paid 6.60 per night last week of April and stayed for 6 nights). Only one thing that can be improved, in my opinion, is the pillows which are in a real poor shape...but again, that is only a suggestion.

I was looking for a short and cheap vacation to Budapest. In the Internet I found that one for only 9€ per night. I didn't expected to much for the price. Even if the location is not the best, but you can get very fast and easy by public transport into the city. The owners are very nice and help you with anything. You also get free WiFi and you have a free locker. All in all the accomodation was perfect. Right now I'm Australia for a year and living only in hostels over here and over here you don't get a hostel for under 24$ usually and mostly they're not that comfortable as that one was. Thanks a lot,
Lars
