The Book Cafe is tucked away at the back of a book shop. The room is very large and amazing. There are brilliant frescos and grandeur decor. The hot chocolate is thick and creamy and the cheesecake amazing. The service was great and the prices surprisingly low. Definitely plan a morning tea stop here.

I tried to get into the book cafe on my last visit to Budapest, but the queue put me off. That was New Year's Eve though, and by April '14 the queue was no longer an issue.

The cafe is breathtaking, accessed via a nondescript bookshop it really is a jewel. They serve English Breakfast tea, not something that's particularly easy to come by in budapest, so perfect for a homesick Brit. Ham and cheese toastie was nice too.

The reason to go though is for the room itself. Its a masterpiece, and like all such wonderful buildings you can't help but wonder just how it managed to survive WWII and the subsequent Soviet occupation.

Go, it's lovely.

It's more about the building than the food but bonus, that was good too. We had a little wait for a table and they are a bit pushed together but the cake was very good (I picked Esterházy torte which wasn't quite what I expected). Felt very grand sat in such plush surroundings. Two coffees and two cakes around £8.00, very good value.

Visited the Book Café while we were on the hop on hop off bus....easily reached from one of the stops on the way to Hero Square. So beautiful inside and the cakes were lovely too! TIP if you need the loo ask the waiter as they will give you a bar code...otherwise you need 200 coin.

The building & the interior is truly old world charm & you can imagine how those of yesteryear would have enjoyed a morning or afternoon tea. It is impossible to take your eyes off anything. Very captivating, you will not be sorry. Definitely try the Belgian hot chocolate.
