Not for the claustrophobic but a brilliant visit with so much from the actual period 2nd World War War, Revolution and the Cold War. Very well guided as you can only do a guided visit.

Lots of history with hospital in the rock. Good guides in English and a short informative movie to syart with. Costs are available before the tour, they feel original, tjis geys you into the era. Well worth a visit.
It's worth finding this museum as it is really a one-off experience. The young guide who took us round was interesting and had all the facts at her fingertips, as well as plenty of enthusiasm for the job. We found the tour fascinating. No photography allowed (which didn't stop a couple in our group using their phones). You might need a jacket down there as it's a bit chilly but outside was 33C when we visited so it was a welcome respite for us. They have coats you can borrow at the entrance. You need to take photo ID with you to buy a ticket and it's worth noting that if you're over 70 you get in free! The lift saves a bit of leg-work to get there, especially going back up. Highly recommended as a most unusual and interesting tour of abut an hour.
Dear annette65_10,
thank you for your feedback!
We offer plenty of discounts, e.g. for over 70 years old, EU citizens. We hope this tour has given you a lot!
Kind regards,
Hospital in the Rock Team
It was very impressive and educational. Service was excellent. Tour guide was inspiring! The English person that gave the tour guide, his English could be better. But it was okay.
I really enjoyed this visit. Easy to access from Castle/St. Matthias Church. Tours run every 30 min during peak hours. It moved at a decent pace. Starts with an intro video and then a guided tour. Really neat to learn it's history and changes over time. Also good way to escape the heat outside. Wish the group had a been a tad smaller but enjoyed it anyways. Free restrooms and small souvenir/drink area.
Dear cdandoy,
thank you for taking the time to share your experience!
We are glad that Hospital in the Rock is a popular sight among tourists, therefore most of our groups are full. We are happy that you enjoyed this visit!
Kind regards,

The hospital in the rock is exactly what the name suggests – an underground hospital that made use of the natural caves in the area and was used extensively during the turbulent Hungarian history.
The admission includes a tour guide who you could see wasn’t just saying her piece but was passionate about the subject. The rooms are set up with waxworks demonstrating the history of the hospital and how it would have looked at various stages of its history from small hospital to a heavily overcrowded one during the uprising and finally to nuclear bunker during the Cuban missile crisis.
The place is not on the main path for tourists to Pest and therefore does not get the same numbers of visitors as the main attractions here although it is only a ten minute walk away with an outdoor lift to get down to the entrance level.
Would heavily recommend it if you are in the area and interested in the history of hospitals or Hungary.
