“Amazing hotel”
Reviewed 16 November 2013 via mobile

The location, decor, rooms, everything was fantastic.

The Japanese inspired cuisine was amazing, and the espresso martini's from the bar were some of the best we have ever had.

The staff were friendly, the rooms were fantastic size.
The ultra modern Japanese toilets aren't for everyone though!

A highly recommended hotel!

My mum and I have just spent 3 nights at the Buddha Bar in Budapest and it was absolutely fantastic, the staff were really friendly, rooms are amazing, breakfast is delicious and restaurant fabulous. The location is amazing too, we would love to come back. It is very dark inside and it would be good if guests could increase the lighting in their room if they wish. Also it would be good to have more free English speaking entertainment TV channels, of the 8 available, all were just news channels save for 1 fashion channel, but apart from those very minor suggestions, it is an out of this world hotel in a very beautiful city. After having checked the tripadvisor online, we chose this hotel and what a hotel. The rooms are superb, clean and luxurious. The staff is friendly and helpful and make you feel special. The hotel have a perfect location, just two minutes walk from the nearest Metro and practically in the center of the town. Breakfast is served until10:30 in the week and 11:00 during weekends. A good variety and a helpful staff makes it a perfect start of the day. Since we wanted a spa-holiday of course we have tried the spa at the hotel. As everything else at this hotel it is first class. The price isn't exactly low, but absolutely worth it. To sum it all up... next time we won't be looking for a hotel in Budapest, we will be looking for a room at this hotel. Norwegian couple.

One of the best things about this hotel is the wonderful high ceilings - even the superior rooms are not that big (as others have commented), but the high ceiling makes them feel a bit more spacious. Overall, the whole building is wonderful, with real character. I even enjoyed walking up and down the stairs - how many hotels can you say that about?

Like most, I find the mood lighting a little bit overdone, but I was only here one night and it didn't really bother me. But if you like bright light, stay somewhere else!

The bed was super comfortable, and the curtains did a good job of keeping out all the light, so I was able to sleep in.

Service was very friendly and efficient throughout.

I found the breakfast really excellent. Properly fresh fruit (and lots of it), and the cooked breakfast (which is included) was top quality. My fried eggs were done to perfection and had lovely golden yolks. OK, the coffee could better (why can't hotels ever manage good coffee?)

Room Tip: Room 319 had a small balcony which was fun. Sadly it doesn't have river views.

This is a very good hotel. But when asked by a mobile phone salesman whether I would buy a Ford Focus if I could have a Lamborghini, I explained that without a doubt I would, because you can get in, see out and fit three adults in the back seat and 2 suitcases in the boot.

You can easily fit 3 adults and lots of suitcases into our room at the Buddha-Bar. The room was huge, and the extra bed for our third adult was as comfortable as any normal bed. Pillows were OK, I've had better but I've also had very many a lot worse. Big counter/desk with lots of drawers in which to lose things. Big well-lit bathroom with two sinks and big bathtub with rainwater shower and separate hand-shower. Nice toiletries, Nice TV. Comfortable armchairs. Lots of wardrobe.

And the Lamborghini problem? It's a style thing. The designer's brief was obviously to make the experience like returning to the womb. Comforting, safe, cared-for. But being a man (I'm sure it was a man) leaving out the practical stuff. Blood-red walls and ceiling, which probably worked better on the higher floors than it did on a low floor facing another building. Light switches that would have taken hours to get the hang of, had we not needed to turn on every single one each time we entered the room. A beautiful, elegant (and very well lit) bathroom, with a beautiful elegant glass shower screen that did not do what a shower screen should do. Just two hooks, occupied by bathrobes, and nowhere to put the towels - fortunately there was great need for towels on the floor due to the above-mentioned shower-screen issue. Sharp-edged heavy dark-wood armchairs which I kept on walking into in the night. No mirrors in the bedroom, but a mirrored bathroom door that I kept on walking into also.

On the plus side, the loo, (I'll leave that as a pleasant surprise) and the discovery that if you position yourself properly, the reading (spot-)lights are actually very good.

All the staff were really pleasant and helpful and seemed to have genuine smiles. The buffet breakfast was not brilliant, but was good, and the choice was interesting. We enjoyed having a cooked breakfast option, though not impressed by the cook's skill with fried eggs. Service was excellent at all times. The attached restaurant, (when we found it) provided a good oriental dinner again with good service and reasonable rates.

Location was convenient for us, not as central as some of the better-known properties but an easy walk to several places we wanted to see on foot, and with good public transport reasonably close by. Good shopping very close by if we had wanted to shop. Tour bus stop and scenic boats stops both within short stroll.

Budapest seems to be completely taken over by building works and road works and there was a lot of that within our immediate area so that even the honest (most of them) taxi drivers ended up taking weird diversions. Not all the taxi drivers were honest, but after day one (Euro 25 for an Euro5 journey) we knew to ask for an estimate before getting in. When we finally tried the metro and trams but it was remarkably easy and efficient.

Overall I enjoyed Budapest, and when I wasn't being irritated about the lack of hooks in the bathroom, I enjoyed the hotel very much.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor.

What a cool hotel!
We went on a trip staying for 4 nights at Buddha bar hotel with our toddler son. What a great stay we had!
The interior of the hotel was absolutely gorgeous and felt really fresh. Some people may think that the colors can make it feel dark but we thought this was part of the whole feeling.
The cleaning was flawless and service mind of the employees was really great.
We booked spa treatments both me and my husband and it felt really good and professional.
Roomservice was really great also that we took the first evening when we arrived late to the hotel.

Here's some tips though that we thought of:
* The breakfast is pricey and we didn't think it was worth it. Just a couple of meters from the hotel much better breakfast cafes where found with tastier breakfast a lot cheaper. (But if you want to eat earlier then most places haven't opened yet so that can be a reason to eat at the hotel.)
* If possible bring something more for the toddler to sleep on. They had babybeds, but it didn't have any madras. just the bottom "disc". Some toddlers maybe like the hard surface but our didn't. Luckily we had a blanket that he could use and made him sleep on the duvet that was in the bed to make it a bit softer.

Other than that we will definitely recommend this hotel to our family and friends. We loved the hotel and will definitely have this one on our list to choose from the next time we go to Budapest.

We booked this hotel because it looked very nice from the pictures and the reviews were good. We stayed for 3 nights in October 2013. We would defintely not reccomend it. The hotel prices are far too high compared to other hotels of the same category and given what is offered. The rooms are small. We even got upgraded to a superior room and it still was very small. I cannot imagine how small the standard room must be.
At check-in, although the hotel had all the credit card details, we were asked for a deposit of 50 Euros per night which we accepted. The problem is that the deposit was returned to us only one week after we checked out. The hotel was not able to cancel the deposit right away but had some complicated procedure with its bank to do that.
The SPA is small and its prices really high compared to what you can find around the hotel.
In the room there is a nespresso machine for coffee with only two coffee pods and a small bottle of water. This is all you get for 150 Euros a night? Breakfast excluded?
This hotel takes advantage of its name and brand, but the services offered are far below 5 stars standards. It the end we found pretentious and would not recommend it.

Dear,

Thank you for your time, reviewing your recent stay at the Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest and I am very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience.
Feedback is really important to us to understand where we have to make improvements in order to provide the best of service for our guests, therefore I appreciate your comments.
Due to the Klotild Palace’s unique shape that houses the Buddha-Bar Hotel, all rooms and suites are quite different in size and layout, even in the standard category.
As a standard procedure, our colleagues at the reception do take a deposit upon check-in, that is pre-authorized on the credit card. After check-out the amount is being released, however the banks’ communication might take a few days until the amount is freed. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this procedure might have caused you, however this procedure from the bank side is out of our control.
The Buddhattitude Spa is a little island of well-being and relaxation that is specialized in personal treatments and massages and our aim is to provide harmony and revitalization to our guests.
I do hope that despite your first experience we will have the chance again to welcome you back to the Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest and would be glad to assist you in person in case you are planning to return to Budapest. Please do not hesitate to contact me for arrangements directly at tamas.fazekas@buddhabarhotel.hu

Yours sincerely,
