“small but formed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2013

lovely small hotel in an older style building on a side street just off main shopping / eating street handy for the Danube although minor cosmetics failed we found this quaint olde style hotel more than satisfactory staff were polite and helpful throughout our stay. Buffet style breakfast served on the balcony above reception was of a good standard with both continental and cooked breakfast items room was clean and with air conditioning which considering it was 35c outside was a godsend. The bath was a bit on the small side but had spa jets which were used to full extent. There was also a small wellness centre on the 2nd floor which although was undergoing some maintainence was also an added bonus

The staff goes to great length to satisfy customers needs. From RBH you have exellent public transportation possibilities if you don´t want to walk everywhere, in the area around the hotel you have an abundence in restaurants, stores, bath houses, clubs, pubs and museums. This is by far the most impressive hotel I have been to, when it comes to service an cleanliness.

Room Tip: Rooms at 4:th floor is recommended.

The Residence Baron is located in Pest, close to the river. As others noted, it is within a 3 minute walk of the Central Market. Along with its great location, the Residence Baron has phenomenal service. The staff spoke arranged for a driver to pick my husband and I up from the train station. We got in late at night on the last train. It was such a relief to see a professional driver waiting with my name on a sign. The staff spoke perfect English and was eager to assist as needed. After the Opera we had difficulties finding a restaurant that served food around mid-night. The staff recommended a restaurant/bar down the street that was perfect!

As you can tell from the photos, the room was superb. The sheets were crisp, the bed was AMAZING, and our room included a jet tub. I loved the fact that, in addition to towels, we had robes in the room. The in-room computer was also a huge perk. Although we had an Andriod tablet, making travel plans is soo much easier with a full screen and mouse. Breakfast, which was included, was the only area with room for improvement. It was good but not the best morning hotel meal we had during our travels. So go on...book your accommodations with the Residence Baron with confidence knowing that you will get charm, location, comfort and hospitality.

We stayed 4 nights in August. The location is excellent and the hotel itself seems to be new. (Hotel is located very close to the river and Central Market, a short walk to Gellert Baths. The staff at the hotel was very helpful and friendly, our room was clean (nice sheets, nice towels), and the bathroom was great, we enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub. It is good to know that this hotel is air conditioned (not all hotel in Budapest are), which came in handy, as the temperatures during our visit got to mid and high nineties. We had a room on 4th floor--which I believe was quitter than the rooms on lower floors. If you don't speak Hungarian, ask the staff to make reservations for you. They helped us reserve a massage and buy tickets to the Szechenyi Baths, which saved us a lot of time and hassle. (When we arrived to the baths, there was a long line, which we were able to bypass, since we already had tickets.) The breakfast is excellent and we really enjoyed it. Overall, I can't wait to go back--if we travel to Budapest again, this is the hotel I will book.

The ambience of the rooms was "elegant old-world" which when added to its location, makes for a very good choice in Budapest. (The soft beds/pillows and friendly reception people made the whole stay so much nicer. )

As previously stated in other reviews the Residence Baron is in a useful location close to the river and the central market which is truly worth a visit. On arriving by metro it can be confusing initially to find and on arrival in central Budapest it is best to jump on tram 49 or 47 to Elizabeth Bridge and then follow your map a few steps to Vaci Utca and then find the location near the top of the street near the square.
The road outside the hotel was unfortunately being resurfaced when we arrived and every morning at 6.30-7.00 we were woken at the front of the hotel by the sound of the machinery. The Hotel were unapologetic and offered no allowances for the disruption. An email before we arrived would have warned us and been courteous. The double room was small but spotless, a large shower with added hairdryer etc, a minibar and T.V which doubled as a P.C. The double bed is not a double but two singles pushed together with two single duvets and a gap in the middle so don't expect to cuddle up!
The hotel pool is rather amusing and the pictures on the web make it seem like a proper pool not a small tub with a flow of water for you to swim against as there is no room to actually swim anywhere. Clever trick photography, there is a sauna and spa, all free.
The breakfast is adequate and you can order fresh omelette or boiled eggs from the waiter if the pre cooked hot fare looks uninviting after a couple of mornings. They do run out of some items and there could be more fruit on offer. An orange and an apple on offer and one morning mixed fruit. There is cereal and yoghurt, rolls and jams. Enough to set you off for the day.
The staff were approachable but not overfriendly. The taxi to the airport set up from the hotel was reasonable at 5800 Hun Fl which was considerably cheaper than the taxi quote from the rank in the square.
Overall the Hotel was comfortable, clean and well located but the rooms are slightly disappointing size wise, and the doubles are not doubles.
The city is beautiful, so much to see and do and would highly recommend the Free Walking Tours of Budapest, very informative and help you make the best of your stay by giving an explanation of the city history and cultural heritage.

Dear Nickysc,
I would like to thank you for sharing your appreciative comment on Tripadvisor. It has been our pleasure that you found us a good place to stay. I also would like to thank you for the compliments regarding our room cleanliness, and the location. I am delighted that you enjoyed our breakfast too, we try to expand our assortments with more delicacies to fulfill the requirements. Our staff also try to make their best to create a cosy and pleasant atmosphere for all of our guests. We offer all kind of sightseeing tours, river cruises, programmes, thermal tickets, taxi service etc. at the Reception-desk. As our hotel is not so huge, we have only 27 rooms, the size of our wellness area fits to the hotel’s size (the counter-current pool is 600x210 cm, as it is stated on the website) and equipped with all facilities (jacuzzi, sauna, wellness pool and massage service) so we try to provide complex service in our hotel, not only bed-and-breakfast, but fine catering -an a’la carte restaurant, lobby bar - wellness department and soon we will open our medical center.
We were also worried about the noise and the unconveniences due to the municipal road reconstruction in front of us, and we sent a warning e-mail to all the guests to whom we had a valid e-mail address to let them know about it. The renovation was only on weekdays in official working-time, to avoid waking up the guests in the morning or disturb their sleep (we consulted with the company as there are two hotels in this area) and also there was some difficulty to access the hotel, but our bellboys got the situation controlled and helped carring the luggage and accompanying the guests to the taxis. Now the works are completed and the street is nicer than it used to be, thank you for your patience and understanding.
We appreciate your suggestions, as we strive to improve our services and make our guests stay as enjoyable as we can!
