This hostel is very conveniently located. It is close to Tesco supermarket, the main street and is within walking distance to bars, clubs and the city square. The employees were helpful and knowledgable - many were polygots. Oh and there was free food in the fridge! A lot of free food in the fridge :D. The beds were clean and the lounge area had fitting music for the hostel. Would definitely return again

Nice location, near a supermarket (couple of blocks) and not so far away from the downtown and where you hop onto the touristic buses. Employees were really friendly and helpful, and it was a quiet hostel, tough we had bad luck with our roomate, an asian guy that made so much noise while sleeping... Bathroom was ok, clean, the bedroom door had an access card and the kitchen was very good, also clean, and they had ingredientes available, salt, oil, spice, etc.

Located in Jewish Quarter near bars and nightlife, including Szimpla Kert which is only a few minutes walk. The hostel is clean and room spacious, Due to the lively nightlife in the area, there is a bit of noise from the street but the double-glazed windows does a great job of keeping it out.

The old town is only a 10 minute walk away, 15 minute walk to the river where the No.2 tram takes you down the promenade for the most scenic ride especially during dusk/night. The main train station is also an easy 4 stops ride down the main road.

Staff is friendly and will answer any questions you have. Will stay here again if I'm back in Budapest.

We went there for 3 days with some friends, and we had an awesome stay !

The place is cool and clean, and location is perfect ! But the most important, the staff is GREAT: they will help you for anything you need (big up to Jim who made our trip even more cool !).

You will enjoy the size of the hostel, making you feeling at home : possibility to take a drink with people and the staff before going out like a family !

Don't look for another place to stay, this is it !

We will definitely come back !

PS : If you want to see some Harry Potter's magic, ask Jim to show you some tricks ! And ask him to bring you drink "a little bit" of Pálinka haha

We've been staying in Bazar Hostel while being in Budapest and it's been an excellent stay! The hostel is extremely well located, clean and the personnel is really welcoming. Especially Jim, who has been of great help to plan our trip! I would thus highly recommend this hostel for your stay in Budapest!

I stayed here for 2 nights (24th/25th Nov, 2013). The place generally has everything you'd expect from a hostel and what differentiates it is its idiosyncracies which can spoil the place. It has some good staff, there's a wonderfully courteous guy here who studied sanskrit who i enjoyed talking to, but it also has a couple of unfriendly folks - i suspect one of being slightly racist, because when I arrived his rudeness was absolutely weird. He basically forced me to listen to music very early in the morning when, I when I had a head ache from a long journey. I gently asked him to turn the music down, and he refused....

Which leads me to my biggest problem with this place: don't be fooled by the comfy looking lounge, IT'S ONLY WELCOMING TO THOSE WHO CAN TOLERATE MUSIC ALL DAY - I don't want the red hot chili peppers ever in my life, but at 8am on a Sunday morning when having breakfast is too much. If you are noise sensitive, music sensitive, need to read, conference for pleasure or business then don't come here, beccause you'll be told you're not welcome and not part of the hostel ethos. There is a sign on the wall which says no noise after midnight, but it's the staff who make noise, and there is no sign to say when the noise curfew ends (which is ended by the staff not the residents). Despite the noise, I didn't notice residents communicating much or doing much together. This is not a party hostel either, so I don't really know what they are are trying to achieve in the lounge, but they clearly don't understand that music is only pleasurable when a person wants it, if they don't want it, it's deeply oppressive and annoying.

General comments:
Wifi: good download speed (30mb/sec) / upload very slow: 3mb/sec. Go elsewhere, other hostels such as the colorshostel just down the road have better internet speeds.

The Kitchen: average and ok, but not the cleanest and the chopping boards really smell which isn't good for the appetite. The knives are all serrated and blunt, not great for slicing and chopping.

The staff: generally most speak good english, some speak excellently and very clearly. Most are polite and courteous but I met one who was rude and a female staff member who was very reactionary and defensive about the music in the lounge. Making communication impossible.

Location: good and central, but there are many others at the same cost with better staff and facilities than this place.

Let's be honest to ourselves: the first and most basic thing about a hostel is how clean it is. Even though you think it should be normal, basic, you don't always have it... Well, Bazar Hostel is just superclean and smells nice!

It is also colorful, both the enterior and beyond that: they have an international staff. For example you can tell when the Spanish guy has his shift, you walk upstairs hearing authentic Spanish music which gives a nice spice to the place.

The staff is nice, polite, helpful, creative, managed by a professional and experienced manager who really knows what he is doing, he shows up whenever he is needed and he takes care of everything. They are also able to give you local information, tips, that you wouldn't find out from any travel guide!

Budapest is a very exciting city and Bazar Hostel is located in its heart: the Jewish quarter is full of beautiful old buildings, but at the same time there you have the "party district" with cafés, restaurants, ruin pubs and clubs as well.

I think if you go to Budapest, Bazar Hostel is The Place to stay!
