Peace and tranquility in a bustling city! Electric vehicles only, apart from the bus services. This is an oasis in the middle of Budapest, full of greenery. An ideal place to enjoy a leisurely stroll, even in Winter. A fountain runs to a programme, synchronised to classical music. A ruined abbey is another of the attractions and there is a spa hotel on the island. For film buffs, the houseboat scenes from The Netherlands in Steven Spielbergs' Munich where filmed close to here.

It is long so hubby & I caught a bus to one end and walked from there, it is a beautiful park with wonderful tree's.
There are 2 hotels on the island, one of which is a health spa, but I did not check it out. The rose garden surprised me as still in flower. many ruins and a cute church to see, good for a afternoon delight.

Thank Margaret Marcus... C

Two minutes walk from Margaret Bridge (Margit hid) but you would think you were NOT in a capital city! Enjoy the walk(s) and the peace and quiet.

Margaret Island sits in the Danube river like a Green, lozenge shaped Oasis of relative tranquility. The island is accessed by numerous trams and buses that cross Margaret Bridge at an odd angle. The whole Island is designed with relaxation and stress relief in mind, dotted with greenery. sports facilities and wildlife everywhere and is an ideal spot to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Wandered across the Danube without realizing what little gem we were heading to. The electric vehicles first caught our attention as we walked down the street, but the fountain came into view, playing classical music whilst the water fountain played to the tune. Unfortunately we only caught the last 3 / 4 minutes, so we found a seat, sat in the warm sunshine and waited till the next performance in 50 minutes.(On the hour). The map showed a ruins and Zoo further down the road, so the kids in us got the better and we hired an electric vehicle. Great fun driving down the roads at safe speeds. Were able to stop at leisure and see what we wished.
A good mornings activity. If you wish to be a kid at heart - give it a go.
