“Good value, comfortable”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

Well-located just across the Chain Bridge from Pest city center. Room was small, but typical for European hotel. Hallway was on the dark side, as was room. Breakfast was enormous and good.
Overall value was good. Desk clerks were very helpful, and good in English.

The location of the Carlton Hotel is probably its best feature - situated on the Buda side below the Fisherman's Bastion and Castle District and very close to the Chain Bridge, which takes you to the Pest side in about 10 minutes. We were able to do most of our sightseeing on foot, although we did make use of the Hop on - Hop off bus and boat rides that were included in our package.
Our room was perfectly clean and serviceable but it didn't have the wow factor. We were on the 6th floor which was very quiet and luckily it had air conditioning which we needed, as the temperature rose to 35 degrees. The hotel has free wifi which worked well in all parts of the hotel. The beds were comfortable but I found the pillows gave me neck and shoulder pain, despite trying various combinations. The bathroom was small and functional - the one negative were the towels which were so thin we would have thrown them out! Breakfast was average - lots of choice - cereals, fruit, yoghurts, juices, breads, toast, ham & cheese, scrambled & boiled eggs, sausages, cakes etc but the fruit was mostly tinned, the juices tasted like powdered ones and the ham and cheese looked processed, so it could definitely have been better.
The staff were friendly and helpful but I asked for a light bulb to be changed on our first morning and it still hadn't been done by the time we left on the 3rd day. Also they only leave 2 teabags per day in your room and throwaway cups so you can only have one cup of tea a day. On the second day we weren't left any so we had to go down and ask for some.
We used the shuttle bus to take us to and from the airport which worked very well - prompt, good value and according to all the guide books a much better bet than a taxi.
All in all, we felt the hotel was very good value and I would have given it a good rather than average if Trip Advisor had that rating.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room on the upper levels - if you had one facing the road it could be noisy.

This hotel is in a great location. It is in walking distance of the city center of pest and the old town of buda. There are two great restaurant located in the same building and the restaurant breakfast was very good with an outstanding selection. The customer service was also nice and very helpful. I would definitely stay here again simply for the convenience, quality, and price.

we visited this hotel march 2013 for 4 days as a birthday break and for the price we payed it was awesome.staff on arrival and departure very helpful, room was clean and big enough for us and im 6ft 8 Breakfast was freshly prepared and all you could eat, even the coffee was ok,
location is the jewel in its crown with easy access to all the major sites in both buda and pest.
we walked every where with only two taxi rides for the whole break(Raining cats and dogs)
to sum up.....A nice clean comfortable base from which to strike out to the main sights.
Negatives......some will find the steps out side the hotel down to the river a little steep but there is an alternative rout. And that's it
TOP TIP...Go down the steps turn right you will find the Lanchid Bar(Hungarian meals served) great hang out for Hungarians and a few tourists.Enjoy.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Carlton Hotel. I had a very nice stay here. The main selling point has to be the prime location of this hotel. Situated just below the Royal palace and Castle District, and a block away from Chain Bridge, you really can't beat it. The ability to walk to many of the main attractions in Budapest is a huge plus.

The hotel has a beautiful main floor and lobby - updated and modern. The breakfast is great! The rooms are not as updated as the lobby, but they are comfortable. I had a room on the courtyard and it was nice to wake up to.

I definitely recommend this hotel - great spot and comfort for the price.

Great location--easy walk across the Chain Bridge to Pest, close to the funicular up to the Castle area, across street from steps and walkways up to Castle area if you prefer to walk (try it--plenty of great overlook spots along the way if you need a rest--and it's not that strenuous a walk, but I live in a hilly area so I'm used to it). Nice cafe right across the alley, restaurant at other end of the alley which we didn't try but for which I've read good reviews. Breakfast buffet was well stocked with plenty of choices. Only complaint would be lack of much fresh fruit. We were surprised how many folks we saw at breakfast since we never seemed to see many in the lobby or elevator or hallways. We liked that the room window opened. We did use the ac one aft and found it to cool the room quickly. WiFi in room worked well, no problems. Appreciated the computers with printers in area off lobby--useful for printing airline boarding passes. Room was clean and well-kept, as was the bathroom. Only complaint was the quality of the towels--they were certainly adequate, but a little thicker would be better.

Room Tip: Room 605 overlooked the cobbled alley in front of the hotel and was away from the elevator and fairl...

Two blocks from Chain Bridge and Funicular to Buda Castle. Helpful staff, plentiful breakfast and clean rooms. Smoking floors available and business center with a couple old computers which was very helpful to make reservations and print boarding passes.
