“Aweful service, nice spa”
Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

We stayed in this hotel in spring 2014. It is located quite far from the city center and if u need to get there, you will need to catch the bus #26 and then tram #2. As for breakfast, it was really poor. The juice was combined with water, sausages were like paper. As for rooms - they were really old-fashioned. In rom there was no ventilation system at all. We asked the receptionist for slippers, they told us to buy them ;))) then iciest thing was spa. There are a lot of different saunas (eucalyptus and others). 3 types of swimming pools (cold 27 degrees, warm around 30 and hot -38 degrees) with different kind of massage things. Also there is a nice park on the island. So u can have a walk there. Each second person in this hotel is from Russia or Ukraine ;)

Dear Guest,
I would like to thank you very much for sharing your opinion about the hotel’s services.
Thank you for your comments regarding the room, food and traffic.
We kindly draw your attention that you can travel to the last station by the bus 26, it reaches the city center in 10 minutes and you do not have to change for other public transportation.
Slippers belong not to our standard set-up to our rooms (except executive levels) but there is the possibility to buy them on premises if somebody left them at home.
It happens that we have sometimes higher temperatures in spring, but airconditioning is working in summer only, when we have warm weather in a long run.
We do hope to be able better and better from year to year and that you will test this improvement the next time as well.
Looking forward to hearing again from you, I remain
with best regards

We chose this hotel based solely on the fact my husband was running the Budapest half marathon and did not want to add in complications of getting to the start line in an unfamiliar city. We are glad we found this hotel though as we had a lovely stay. Margaret island is not near the main night life of central Budapest but once you understand the train/bus network finding your way round is easy. The number 26 bus goes into town 4 or 5 times an hour, takes about 10 minutes to get to the central area and from there you can walk or connect to the metro. Would strongly suggest a 24 or 48 hour travel card which enables you to use all public transport. We got a group one that covers 2 to 5 people for one price of 3300HUF for 24 hours, great value. You can also get to Szentendre really easily, cross Arpid bridge onto Buda side and train station is just there, takes about 40 minutes on train, worth the visit.
The hotel is out dated as you can see from other reviews but inside is fine, clean and has all the amenities you need although our suite room did not include bottled water which I found strange and frankly annoying. Room was a good size for a suite with large bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle (that was a bit small for size of room), there was a lounge attached which was a good size and our teenage daughter had a rollaway bed in there and still lots of room for sofas and chairs. A balcony off that room was small but functional. Only real gripes about room - too warm, could not get room to cool down and windows do not open apart from balcony door which we left propped open if we were in there.
Food - had breakfast in main restaurant for first 2 days as executive breakfast room was being decorated. Food choice was good and all was self service including tea and coffee which at busy times was a problem, staff helpful though. When executive area re opened we went there and was lovely. Stunning views from 9th floor, table service for tea etc and eggs prepared to order, 2 different ladies over the 3 days, both lovely. Do not think they have evening drinks service there which was a shame, something we have enjoyed in other hotels, would be a great location for it too. Dinner was taken twice in the restaurant in the sister hotel after a stroll through the underground tunnel. First night was good, 2 of us had buffet and teen chose off a la carte, food choice good and there was a violinist for entertainment. Service was a bit off on second night there and we did not get our bottle of wine until I was halfway though my dinner, only a small thing but poor. We ate out the other nights and really enjoyed trying local cafes and local food, never really understand why people go to these great cities and then end up in Starbucks or McDonalds. La Pamper was a great steak house and Okay Italia was lovely food and atmosphere too.
Did not try the spa, just did not have time as wanted to see the city, so glad we went, Budapest is a real treat for anyone interested in architecture and history.
Margaret Island was lovely to wander around with lots going on, more in Summer though from May onwards, was a lovely setting for the hotel and we are really pleased we chose to stay there rather than in the hustle and bustle of the city.
Women on the reception desk way more friendly and cheerful compared to the men, note to management - keep the women, get rid of the men, they were so unfriendly and could not have been more disinterested when we first arrived, we had booked their top room, a bit more of a friendly approach would have been appreciated.

This was our third visit to St Margaret's Island - previously we stayed in the older "sister" hotel next door - The Grand Hotel Margitsziget. The newer hotel was lovely and the spa is in the same building but I have to say personally I prefer the older building. I love Budapest and also the Danubius hotels on St Margaret's. Always so easy to book online and very good value for money with excellent breakfast - with the bonus of being served until 10am! Some lovely staff and a few grumpy ones who needed to learn a little about good customer service! When we asked about getting the bus into the centre the receptionist didn't inform us we needed change or offer any extra help so we ended up waiting and then not being able to get on as we had no change but I think that was just unlucky with who we asked!

Room Tip: We were a larger group and to be honest all had good rooms :)

This spa complex is located very nice in the middle of Danube on the Margret Island. The hotel itself was constructed already 30 years ago and you can see this in the room - furnitures from 70ies or 80ies / old air condition, which heats the room to 30 degrees.
Sleeping comfort was very good / breakfast very good European style

I had a one night stay there. Location is beautiful at Island on Danube. Hotel quite nice, but could use renovation. Service very friendly, rooms spacious (but also could do with some renovation), internet connection in price. I would recommend - this Island is a quite haven in the middle of city Havoc :) I will most likely stay there again. Can't say how is the SPA part- did not have time to check, but looking from other reviews looks promising.

We arrived on 27th December feeling frazzled from Christmas and needing some rest and relaxation and boy did we get it!!!
We were greeted by beautiful Christmas lights, a welcome sight in the dark and a warm welcome from reception who informed us they had given us an upgrade. Our room was on the 9th floor with beautiful views of the danube over to Buda. Beautifully clean and well equipped with great big bed, sofas, huge TV and fabulous bathroom. immensely hot though and we had our patio door open most of the time so we could sleep. The executive rooms have a private breakfast restaurant which was lovely with hot food cooked to order if requested by a very efficient lady who worked on her own and did everything.
The restaurant food was not the best I have ever had but as it was a buffet there was always something that you could have. The service was good in the restaurant and very polite so no complaints there.
The spa is something else. Robes provided in your room and entry is by room key card. Everything is spotless. Swimming pool, three different thermal pools of differing temperatures with loungers around the sides. A nice darkened relaxation area with sauna, steam and aromatherapy rooms. Beware the saunas are single sex which is not immediately noticeable so you could be embarrassed as I was if you go into the wrong one!!
We had massages and mud treatments which were excellent but I was disappointed with the beauty treatments which I thought were overpriced for what you got. I wished I had had another massage instead.
The bar area is lovely for the evening with an accomplished pianist who plays every night. Very attentive barman with a ready smile who made us feel very special.
The hotel is on an island which has beautiful walks and a running track all he way around. We saw lots of wildlife including red squirrels which was a treat. Some of the buildings have fallen into disrepair which is a shame but at night the views of the city are beautiful as the important buildings are lit up. We did a bus tour on our last day which the concierge booked for us and arranged a taxi to take us to the tour.
Unfortunately we had a lot of thick fog during our visit so did not see as much of the city as we would have liked. However that does give us a good excuse to go back and we would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: All rooms have views over the river
