The Hotel is situated on a hill not too far away from public transport. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are nice. The beds are comfortable and clean and there was plenty of hot water. The hotel is an ideal base for exploring Buda and Pest and is 10 minutes walk to Margaret Island which is a must. Buda and Pest have lots to see and do and the thermal spa's are a must. Well worth the money and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the terrace look nice but I guess would be noisy if lots of people out there.

Given the prices, and quiet but central neighbourhood in which it is located, Hotel Papillon is one of the best average hotel from Europe i might say. If you only need one quiet room, with a bed and a bathroom and with good food and services, then you should choose Papillon.

Room Tip: Do not choose rooms from the first floor.

Location of hotel is very convinent. City centre is reachable by public transport or walk. Walk is very pleasant, along river Danube bank where you can see praliament, go across bridges... Rooms and bathroom are clean and good. Furniture is bit old, but for a short city trip it is enough. Breakfast is a bit basic but, it is enough (cold cuts, eggs, muesli, coffee, etc).
Staff was VERY helpful and pleasant. Private parking is good, although not spacious enough.
Value for money was good, View was GREAT.

A small hotel within easy reach of the best areas of Budapest for a tourist (i.e. the Buda side of the river, near to Metro and tram stations). The staff are friendly and the atmosphere pleasant - some people may find it a bit basic, but what do you want for that price? This was the fifth time we've stayed, and it won't be the last.

Recommended by a Hungarian friend who lives nearby. It may only be 3 stars but it was about the best 3 star hotel I have stayed in.
A small distance from the hustle and bustle of the city but easy walking distance.
Very comfortable and clean, very helpful reception staff.
Breakfast fine and coffee excellent. I enjoyed my stay and will certainly return.
And it was cheap, even the superior room.

This hotel provides a friendly relaxing base for exploring and enjoying Budapest. It is in a residential area with apartments, parks and shops which is wonderful to wander round. Public transport to the Centre and main tourist spots is a few minutes walk away and is very regular and costs little, the reception staff will always organise a taxi if you require it. We found our room, which had balconies looking out over the back, clean, comfortable and generally quiet, except for saturday night which is party night locally. The breakfast offered from 7am to 10am in the small dining room provides a great cup of coffee, good bread and jams, cereal and around 7.45am freshly cooked scrambled and boiled eggs. The small bar has an array of drinks and friendly service. The hotel also provides a meal during the day if you want it. Wifi is speedily available in reception, the bar and the restaurant. The staff are always helpful and quietly friendly. The cost is modest for such relaxed and relaxing accommodation.

We've been to Budapest for a business meeting but also took a day and a half to visit the city.
The hotel isn't right in the middle of everything, but within pleasant walking distance to Danube - Margit Bridge and Island. It is also not so far away from Buda Castle, which is worth visiting.
Papillon is a quite small but fairly well maintained hotel. Our room was very small, the smallest room I've ever seen in a hotel (around 9 square meters except bathroom), but then again it was clean, cosy and had new furniture (I think there are larger rooms for extra payment). Breakfast not so rich and varied, but good enough to start the day (eggs, ham, cheese, salami, jam, cereals, tea, coffee, milk - the usual stuff).
Budapest is a very nice city, we liked it a lot. At night, with all the lightening, the views are spectacular. There are nice places to visit and interesting things to do but as we didn't have the time to see them all, we're planning to come back next year. We will probably choose this hotel again, as the quality-price ratio is very good.
There are more expensive 3* hotels but we'd rather spend those extra money on visiting Budapest, buying souvenirs, having pleasant traditional meals or snacks downtown.
