The Hotel Victoria is 4* but don't be expecting luxury.

We stayed as a group of 3 for 3 nights for about £100 each and thought it was outstanding value.

The hotel is about 5 mins walk to the bottom of Buda Castle Hill, about 5 mins to the Chain Bridge and about 5 mins to the metro. It is right on the banks of the Danube and has the most stunning views across the river to the Parliament building which is beautiful, and down the river to the Chain Bridge. We could have walked from the hotel to any of the key tourist sites.

Breakfast was from 7-10am, and was basically breads, cereal, cheese, ham with a hot breakfast on request.

The rooms were very clean, our room was very big, we had satellite TV (great for watching the winter olympics!) and the perfect view! Beds were comfy, and we all slept well. We were in room 83 and I would recommend requesting a room on floor 5 or above and ending in -3 as they are on the corner, to get the best view.

The staff were for the most part polite and friendly - they booked us cabs and reserved tables when we asked. When we were leaving for the airport and I realised I had thrown away my e-ticket for the flight home they helped me go through the rubbish to find it!!

I would definitely recommend staying at the Hotel Victoria and would go back.

Do note though when planning a trip to Budapest that museums tend to be closed on Mondays and lots of restaurants are closed on sundays.

This hotel is generally speaking a very good one but of course its main point is the extraordinary view over the Danube. I suggest you to book a room from the 5th floor up, for along the riverside there is a double road and there could be an audible noise (besides, the further up you stay, the better view you get!). This was a little bit of problem when we arrived, despite the very clear request in my booking (but I must specify that it was New Years Eve time). At the end it was all settled, but the reception could have been more friendly. The (indoor) parking spaces are very limited (and expensive).

Service: The service was excellent, as we entered the hotel we were given our room key and told the cheapest and safe taxi service. We also picked up a free high quality street map from reception. We never used it as the location was walking distance of everything. Breakfast was the same as any other hotel I have used, they seemed keen to cook you breakfast, I recommend the eggs and bacon.

Room: The bed was slightly hard but not a problem. The heating worked well and we could turn it off and open a window if needed. Clean, and although next to a busy road it was very quiet with thick windows. The view was better than any we could find so spent most of our time drinking in the room and looking out of the window.

Location: The hotel was within a mile of most things you would need. The walk was perfectly safe even in the late hours. It is a less touristy area and if anything quieter than pest.

The best bits: Visit the house of torture, a very good museum with things to look at and read, good value for money.

We spent two nights in this hotel and found it to be quite comfortable. It is an old establishment, however, it was of an acceptable standard. We had a room with a view of both the Chain Bridge and The Parliament building which was a spectacular sight, particularly at night.

I had read all the latest reviews posted on tripadvisor and so confidentially reserved a room here for six nights. We were given one on the top floor with a balcony which really surpassed our high expectations. Yes, the view is breathtaking and as the weather was exceptionally warm we took advantage of our balcony and really soaked up this magnificent spectacle of the Danube and Pest. But a hotel can't survive on its view alone, can it. We found that everyone we dealt with was exceptionally friendly and efficient , from the cleaning staff, all at reception and in the breakfast room too. The breakfast was more than adequate and the atmosphere very friendly. I really can't fault it at all but I do fear that some money making hotel chain will get its hands on the Victoria and because of its outstanding location turn it into a flashy expensive hotel. Let's hope not!

The only sour note in our stay was this. We arrived in the evening of 30 Sept, having travelled since 5am, and asked the man at the desk to recommend a place to eat a simple supper close by. He directed us to the Carne des Halle (not sure about spelling), assuring us that it would answer our needs. As we arrived we found that he had phoned ahead to tell them to expect us. Then the problems started! The two men in charge were highly forceful, scoffing at our requests for simplicity and almost forcing our decision on what to order. I asked for two glasses of the house wine only to be told, "No, this is better to have!" which no doubt it was but it was also more expensive. We left as soon as we could and put it down to a learning experience. Imagine our interest at breakfast the next morning to hear from an American couple that they had had exactly the same experience of very expensive food and wine forced on them too at this receptionist's recommendation.

Don't be afraid of walking around yourself and choosing any one of the restaurants very close to the hotel. The one called the Captain's Table/Cabin which promotes Belgian beer, is excellent and very reasonable too.

Anyhow, we didn't let this event spoil a wonderful time at the Victoria Hotel. My thanks and congratulation go to all who took care of us.

We spent two nights at the Hotel Victoria and were very satisfied. It is a modern hotel with large rooms and nice bathrooms. Did I mention the view. It is right on the Danube and facing the river your room is a wall of glass. You will be blown away by the view of the city across the river at night. That in itself is worth the price. The breakfast is excellent, the best of our entire trip including eggs bacon or omlets cooked to order. We walked into the city across the bridge but I would recommend using the trolley. One stops right in front of the hotel and crosses the river into the city. In Budapest, the hop on hop off bus tour is worth it and highly recommended to see the sights because Budapest is so large. Also the main tourist street Vaca Utca is delightful in the evening for resturants and strolling. The only negative point was that the tile in our shower was not real clean.

We stayed with 5 people (three rooms) for 3 nights. The hotel-people were helpful from making the reservations and giving advice on sightseeing and program to making arrangements for celebrating my wife's birthday.
The rooms are comfortable and spacious, have a great view over the river including the parliament, the breakfast is generous. Good value!
The location is convenient for exploring the city.

Overall - a clear will recommend and will repeat.
