“Wonderful location, beautiful property”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

We recently returned from a week long visit to Budapest and stayed at the Kempinski. We loved the location and the staff were great. We were traveling with our grown children. We had originally booked three rooms, but found that the rooms that had two beds were actually two twin beds with no room for a roll-away. We were able to get a fourth room. Two of our rooms were very spacious (629 & 631) and two were very small (709 & 703). They were all nicely appointed. My kids on the seventh floor wanted me to give mention to Trina (?), the housekeeper on their floor. They said she was great! Always so pleasant in the morning and always asked if there was anything else they needed. We all felt that the beds were comfortable. We ordered room service a few times and the food was very good and the servers were extremely pleasant. There were just a couple of things that were not perfect. The rooms were very warm. We opened our windows and turned the heat off, which helped. Also, we were never given wash clothes. (We never asked for them and so this may be on us.) We thought it was unusual that the toiletries were not replaced every day. (If you had half a bottle of shampoo left, they just replaced it on the tray and we were only given two bars of soap during our entire stay.) Finally, there was no coffee maker or heating kettle in the room. Not a big deal, but just nice to have. Overall, our experience at the Kempinski was great and we would definitely stay here again or recommend it to our family or friends!

Dear valued Guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your great family experience and your kind recommendation of our hotel. Your kind acknowledgement of the location, room service, staff, especially the recognition of our made Ms Karolina Mohácsi for her constant effort to provide genuine and high level service is a great pleasure for us. We were concerned to read about the toiletries and would like to assure you that we will look further into this matter to avoid similar situations for our guests in the future.
Thank you very much again for taking the time to share your feedback with us.
We look forward to welcoming you back many more times in the future.
Yours sincerely,
The Kempinski Budapest Team

This Kempinski was disappointing. The decor and room itself are fine--a bit tired looking and nothing special, just a regular business hotel I would say. But the worst part about our stay was probably the service, which left the terrible taste in our mouth.

1) Taxi: we asked the Concierge to book us a taxi to a restaurant on the Buda side. I asked her about how much it would cost and she said around 2000 Forint (keep in mind this is the first time we got on a cab on our trip). So I called the cab for 6:45; we arrived at 6:49 and got on the cab, a gleaming black Mercedes Benz, which took us to the restaurant. The meter ticked up VERY quickly and ended up at 2500 forint at the destination. Then the cab driver tried to make us pay 3000 because he had waited 4 minutes for us, and had started the meter when he showed up at the hotel. I have NEVER heard of a country where the meter starts when the cab arrives--maybe a flat fee for pre-reservation, but they definitely wouldn't have started the meter. So when we balked and refused, he finally backed down but we still had to pay him the meter fare of 2500 ft.

When we finished our dinner, the restaurant called us a regular City cab--just a humble, but clean Ford. The fare back to the hotel? 1500 forint. I was incensed--why had Kempinski's Concierge called us a fancy black Mercedes when we hadn't asked for it? I confronted the Concierge (a different person) and demanded to know if this was a standard collusion practice between cab company and the Kempinski for ripping off unsuspecting tourists. He apologized, confirming that there was no such thing as 2 separate classes of taxis in Budapest, and that all taxi meters were supposed to run the same. He assured us that that particular taxi would never be welcome again at the Kempinski. But I still found it suspicious that the first Concierge, the lady, had told me that cab was going to cost nearly 2x as much as a regular City Cab, without giving me the option to choose a more economical cab. Anyhow, the male Concierge did not do anything to assuage our anger beyond apologize--he asked us if we required an airport transfer and we said no, because we were driving back to Austria. Hey, one bright idea, Kempinski: he could have comped us one day for parking (at 30 euros a day, it was not cheap!).

2) When we checked out we asked for 3 bottles of water at the front desk. The staff member actually tried to make us pay for it, saying we could buy them from the restaurant. Excuse me?! We had to explain that we hadn't received any complimentary bottles of water on the first day (it was a 3 night stay)...finally he arranged for us to get them from the bellhop. Frankly I was a little shocked that he would haggle us over something cheap like bottles of water--and coming from a 5 star hotel, especially so.

Maybe I'm just used to Asian hospitality and the kind of 5-star service they provide, but honestly I think that this Kempinski has a long long way to go before it even measures up to the service levels of Kempinskis in Asia.

Dear valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We were disappointed to read that your concerns about the taxi service let you leave the hotel on a negative experience. We would like to assure you that there are no different fares between taxi companies in Budapest and there is no specific "Hotel taxi with different fares" as of September, 1st. 2013.

Please accept our apology for the missed water delivery on the first night, which is part of our turn down service. It does indeed not represent the level of service we aspire to deliver at Kempinski Hotel Corvinus. We very much regret the inefficient communication in the aftermath and that we have failed to provide you with a better understanding of your water request, which in fact is provided for our guest upon departure once your car is driven up from the garage to the drive way.

We do hope you are willing to give us a second chance for a flawless experience in the future and looking forward to welcoming you back to Budapest soon.
With very best regards,
Your Kempinski Budapest Team

It was our first time at Kempinski and we loved this hotel. The room was very big and comfortable. The hotel has a great location in the centre of Budapest. We were here for the christmas market and we had a magical time. Staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

I thought is hotel was fantastic, I don't stay in many 'proper' 5* hotels ...even my wife who has stayed in top quality hotels on business thought this hotel was special....we upgraded the room which was wonderful with all the amenities you'd expect ..great wifi connection.....most staff were very friendly with the odd exception ( that's life!) the breakfasts were superb with a fantastic choice
and the quality was top notch

The location (the reason we booked) was in the ideal position allowing you to view all Budapest attractions easily.

I loved this hotel, staying for 3 nights in Jan 2014. Perfect location, fab breakfast, spotlessly clean, friendly and efficient service and free Wi-Fi in the rooms. And an art deco feel to the rooms, just great!

My first time at the Kempinski and loved it. Hotel is in the perfect location for Budapest as it's close to Deac station and all metro lines go thru Deac and it's also a tram hub too. As it was a winter stay, and weather was much warmer than expected, I wanted a hotel in the centre of town so I could make a quick return to base if weather proved too much. As it was weather was great but still thrilled stayed at this hotel.

If you're British then be aware there's no kettle in the room and it's about £7 for a cup of tea downstairs but fret not as there's a Starbucks on the corner of the street which is open late.

Breakfast is brilliant, service is superb and the staff could not be more helpful. If it doesn't break the budget too much then this hotel is well worth your attention.

We were upgraded on arrival and delivered an incredibly beautiful cake for my birthday. The staff could not do enough to help.

Room was beautiful, on the corner overhang which overlooked the gorgeous Christmas market. Great facilities, huge room, incredible bed. Just missed tea and coffee making facilities.

Spa is great, enough small rooms to keep you entertained and relaxed.

Breakfast was a highlight, the best I've had across Europe and the second best in the world. Everything you could imagine, presented so beautifully, kept stocked up until the last minute unlike most hotels. Champagne if you fancy, insane amounts of good quality cheese, meat, bread, jams, honeycomb, fish etc the full works. Weekends you may have to queue for a few minutes for a table but it's no big deal.

Any activity the staff will recommend, help you get there and give you any details you require. Take their restaurant recommendations!!

Location couldn't be better, right in the middle of everything, 5 minutes walk to the Danube.

Stunning hotel overall and will highly highly recommend to anyone. Price is very very good.

Room Tip: Corner rooms that overhang the market
