“We found ourselves wanting to stay in the hotel all weekend”
Reviewed 15 December 2009

The Kempinski Hotel Corvinus is fabulous. My overall impression is that it's quite business orientated, but it's also luxurious and plush and ideally located in the centre of the city – perfect for weekend getaways.

Our 'superior' room was enormous, as was the bathroom – we had a shower and a separate bathtub. The room was superbly furnished and very clean. We especially loved the crisp, white feather duvets on the bed and the free access to the Kempinski Spa, complete with a pool (small, but we never had to share it), lounge area, sauna, steam room and tepidarium. The spa even provides complimentary robes (incredibly soft and cosy), slippers and towels.

The service at the hotel was impeccable. The concierge was very knowledgeable and made excellent restaurant recommendations and did the bookings for us. In addition, every evening we came back to find our bed turned down and chocolates on the pillows.

Breakfast wasn't included in the package deal we got with our flights, but the beautiful Gerbeaud café (http://www.gerbeaud.hu/) is just 100 metres from the hotel and serves a delicious breakfast that's easier on the wallet than the £30 buffet at the hotel.

My only complaints about the Kempinski are that the shower temperature was inconsistent, nearly scorching me and then within ten seconds turning to ice. Also, the king sized bed was actually two smaller beds pushed together - not exactly ideal for a romantic weekend as there's a big crack down the middle of the bed! However, I would still very highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Budapest. It made our long weekend even more special.

We traveled to Budapest during Thanksgiving weekend to see our daughter studying abroad at Corvinus University of Budapest. I booked the trip through Yahoo travel with a package of airfare plus hotel stay. We didn't know anything about the hotels in Budapest but have read one review about the hotel. It was a good review. Once we got there, we couldn't be happier about our choice. The hotel is beautiful and located in a great location. It's within a short walk to the 3 major metro lines and numerous buses and trams. We went everywhere on public transportation. It's right on the fashion street, so there are many stores again within walking distance. There are 2 H&M's, a Zara and a Mango clothing stores all within a few hundred yards. There are my 19 year old's favorite stores. It's also right next to a square where they set up temporary holiday shops that are selling crafts and local food. It's not cheap but understandable. The hotel is well furnished with modern decoration. Everything looked new and clean. If I ever had the chance to go to Budapest, I will definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Kempinski in Budapest for 3 nights - it most certainly met its 5* status and made our break very enjoyable. We booked a standard room through lastminute.com but upon arrival got allocated a superior room with lovely views of St Stephens Basicila. The room was extremely clean, modern, well presented and the maids came twice a day. The location is excellent just off the main street Vaci Utca and a couple of minutes walk from the river. We made full use of the complimentary spa - again this was excellent; clean, modern and never too busy.

Budapest as a city was very enjoyable. We had two full days and got round all the main sites and enjoyed some excellent meals/ drinks. We timed our visit with the Christmas market (about 2 minutes from the hotel) - it was very simular to other European markets but worth a visit. We got the bus and metro to the hotel which was very simple. Bus 200E from either terminal 2a or 1 which terminates at the start of the metro blue line where you can get ametro right near the hotel. We got our tickets in the post office at the airport terminal (300F each) - I would recommend you get 2 tickets per person from here (the same tickets are used on all forms of public transport in the city) to save the hassle of having the correct change at the metro station. You can also buy tickets in books of 10/ 20 which is handy. We didn't use the metro much while in Budapest but it was handy at the end of a long day site seeing!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in late November. Checking in was quick and easy and we were lucky to be given an upgrade to a room with a bath and shower. The room itself was spacious and very comfortable. My only (minor) gripes were that the AC was next to useless which is poor for a hotel of this quality, and that the English TV channel selection boiled down to either BBC world news or Sky news. Again, poor for a 5 star hotel. On the plus side everything was spotlessly clean, the breakfast superb (but only if it's included in your room rate - €30 otherwise!!), and a turndown service at night complete with chocolate on the pillow was nice to come back to after a night out.

The location is perfect as well, not overlooking the river but very close nonetheless, and near to all central amenities.

We like to visit Eastern block countries because the Euro zone is so expensive right now. Unfortunately we found Budapest to be so as well. Very little seemed cheaper than at home and we also had to challege waiters on three seperate occasions over the bill, so be warned!

Budapest is an interesting city with plenty to see. It's not as pretty as Prague or Krakow but it is a lot bigger. I would also suggest that it is certainly a place to visit in summer rather than winter.

Whilst not right on the river the hotel is close to shops, restaurants and cafes. The hotel is also right next to the subway exit. In addition. The hotel room is unbelievably large, set out and good value. Highly recommended

Stayed for three nights with friends. Nice and close to pedestrian shopping, the river and local transport. Service from start to finish was first class all the way in all departments. The breakfast was exactly what one would expect in a 5* hotel - expansive and delicious. We ate in the hotel on one evening - superb service and food that melted in the mouth. We would certainly go back.
Some tips for independent travellers:
Budapest is no longer as cheap as it was - now on par with most of Europe. Pay bills in Forints (HUF) - the local currency - as it will cost more in Euros. As we were a party of four, we booked our airport transfers online with fox transfers. The prices were 20/22 euros for the two trips which was excellent value. Very polite and professional.
We found the hop-on hop-off 24 hour tourist bus ticket a good way of seeing the city.
A couple of blips:
Bar servers did not seem to fill up the glasses enough - perhaps only about two thirds and had to be cajoled into closing the gap!
If eating in other restaurants in the locality, the food may not always be as described - eg a spicy chicken breast was served in a pastry casing: and a lovely fillet steak was described as just tenderloin of beef.
All in all a great trip.

If you are staying in Budapest and want absolute comfort and convenience - stay here. The hotel is perfect for business or sightseeing. The staff are friendly and multilingual. The restaurant is excellent and has a wide selection of foods (hungarian/international).

The rooms are large and comfortable...quiet rooms face the back, not the big square - although I am told they are sound proofed. It is a 'corporate' style hotel but with a sense of style. You can't go wrong for business or pleasure stays. Spa is small and indoor pool is tiny - sauna/steamroom is ok. Gym is ok too.
