“Good stay with fantastic view of the River”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

It was a fantastic experience staying in Intercontinental.

It was a 5 day business trip. The best part of the hotel is the beautiful view of the river and the Danube,Bridge on the other side. Staying in Intercontinental is like staying in the city centre, with access to all shops and pubs nearby, and staying close to the most attractive venues in Budapest.

Excellent staff & service, clean and quiet rooms are really plus points. I didn't get the river facing room, but I could imagine how beautiful they are!

Breakfast was included.

Room was equipped with kettle, coffee, tea, hot choc, Ironing facilities, Internet (wired and wireless) etc. Basic TV channels were free to use. Internet is very expensive, as it was almost 6000HF, but it was included in my room rent. Seems to be an agreement with the client I travelled for.

There are gym, pool and spa facilities, but I was not keen on using it due to lack of time.
Taxi facilities are available from the Hotel, but was expensive comparing to the local but popular cab companies. All cab companies accept credit cards.

I aim to go to Budapest with family and hopefully stay at Intercontinental again (ofcourse the river facing rooms).

Don't forget to collect Bonus Airmiles.

Room Tip: Take the river facing room for a better view of the Budapest Palace/Fort.

I have been staying at IHG hotels all over the world. The Budapest property has certain advantages, the biggest being it's location, on the river and close to the shopping district.

Rooms are average, in line with other properties. Suites are also average - not very big but with a lot of amenities.

Overall the property needs a remodel, especially in the rooms. They fell aged while being passably clean, Bathroom in the suite leaves a lot to be desired.

Where this hotel shines is in the public areas. The lounge is fantastic, with great food and great service. there is a good workout area, sauna and a small pool. Nice bar and cafe. Breakfast is in line with similar hotels in Europe. The concierge is very helpful and nice, as is the reception.

From a value perspective, this hotel is better priced than Paris, London, Athens, Germany IHG properties and similar to Prague, which is not as nice...

Good for business trips, excellent location, rooms are fine not excellent though. A little bit of that hotel-chain feeling but OK on the overall score.

First like everyone else says, you cannot beat this view. The location is superb and the hotel itself is great. The concierge service is excellent, the food at this hotel is also excellent - even room service is above average.

There's a spa and pool and fitness, which we did not use, but come recommended.

So a few small things that really should be addressed by mamangement in my view. First is wifi connectivity. They charge a lot for this, $35 a day. Now with a 5 star hotel I expect this to be included. You get a couple of free hours if you eat in the restaurant and if you pay for the concierge service which is an extra $30 or so a day. The irony is that you can get free wifi most anywhere else in Budapest like cafes, restaurants even on the one hour river boat cruise etc. but not in my 5 star hotel room?

The rooms are a bit short on closet space and a tad on the small side, but quite livable.

Overall this is a super place to stay. It is close to most of the places you want to go on the Pest side, and the chain bridge over to Budapest is right outside the front door.....you can't beat this.

The staff are always happy to help and English is not a problem. We liked it here.
Have fun!

Dear Cheyenne2_11,
Thank you very much for your positive comments about our Concierge, the food and room service.
You are absolutely correct with your statement about the view from our hotel rooms - it is very unique and hard to beat. Glad you enjoyed it.
As for the wi-fi charge, we are consistently evaluating our approach and we do hope to find a solution soon that would be acceptable for all our guests.
We hope that we can welcome you back.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay here. We paid extra for a Danube facing room and think it was worth it. The views of the chain bridge, Danube and palace were fantastic. The bed was also one of the comfiest I have ever slept in! The service from all staff was excellent and we used the swimming pool every day which was very clean. The breakfast was also very good. The central location really makes this a good hotel choice and I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a Danube view - it's worth it!

Just returned home from another stay at this excellent hotel - this time for a week - previously has been shorter stays on Business.
I reserved a River View Club Room but as an Intercontinental Ambassador was upgraded prior to my stay to a River View Suite on the 3rd Floor. The views from this side of the hotel are truly wonderfull and I never cease to be amazed. The suite itself was beautifully decorated and appointed and the Instant Service button on the phone never failed to meet with a quick, polite and satisfactory response.
The Club Lounge shares the same view and is one of the best I have been in. The staff were really helpfull and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was of very good quality and this hotel must be the best base for a memorable holiday in Budapest. I really recommend it.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a River View room
