Stayed in the Benczur with my 7 year old daughter. The staff were very friendly and accomodating and very good with my little girl, who is at the age when she likes to do things on her own, they kept a respectful eye on her for me.

The location at Hero square could not be bettered if you are staying with children, being within walking distance of the grand circus, theme park, zoo, thermal spa, museums and national park. The hotel is also about 4 minutes from the Hero square Metro, so you can be in central Budapest within minutes, without the noise and bustle of being based there.

The breakfast is self service and has a wide variety of hot and cold offerings with a distintly Hungarian/German feel, meats, eggs, cheese etc. The in-hotel restaurant offers a variety of traditional Hungarian meals and is good food at an acceptable price.

The superior rooms are clean, spacious and tidy and overall i would rate this hotel as good value for money. I will be staying again.

My experience of this hotel could not have been more different from some of the reviewers. The staff are efficient and polite; the rooms are large, well equipped and clean, the shower was great and the restaurant provided good food. I would have no hesitation in staying here again. I have never found a better value hotel anywhere in Europe.

The Benczur Hotel is very well located in Budapest, off Andressy Avenue, on the yellow subway line. The Hotel staff are helpful, but customer care can be lacking - this is a cultural issue in Hungary though, where customers have to make do with what's available rather than what they want. The hotel advertise wi-fi but be aware that this is not available in the rooms, but just from the reception and bar area near the lobby. There are two grocery stores nearby, but you will have to go downtown for restaurants and bars in the evening.

Room Tip: Avoid standard rooms at the back.

We booked this Hotel, after reading numerous reviews. We weren`t dissapointed.
The staff were very friendly, and spoke good English.
The breakfast was good, and we eat in the resteraunt one night, again, very good.
The location was great for the underground, and Hero`s Square especially.
Only down side, on the last night, a party of Italian students stayed, hence it was very noisy untill 1 am in the room . But security soon sorted this out.
Bedroom was a bit dated, but it wasn`t a superior room, but it was clean.
Certainly a good choice, and good value for money.
Wouldn`t hesitate to stay here again, next time we visit.

I am a regular user of the Benczur and was somewhat surprised to see comments by someone elsein a review a few weeks ago suggesting that she felt threatened by the reception and security staff when she returned back late at night.

Her comments and experience and comments are at total variance with my own. The staff are always exceedingly polite and helpful. I have stayed there when there have been wedding parties, stag groups, visiting Eastern European sports teams, conferences etc.. I have been in the lobby bar late at night and I have never, ever seen a security guard....only waiters, receptionists and porters.

In short, I suggest that you disregard the review to which I refer and visit the Benczur and form your own opinion. Its location is peaceful and in one of the nicest parts of the city.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet

Fresh spacious air conditioned quiet room with a lovely en - suite shower room - easy to operate power shower. Pretty little balcony with beautiful view of the city. Two large wardrobes and lots of shelves. Desk with mirror, room safe and hairdryer which worked perfectly. Comfortable beds, flat screen television, mini bar. Varied breakfast menu. Special diets catered for. Restaurant food excellent. Staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful. Computer in lobby next to seating area - free usage. Local info provided including maps and advice. Very good location near to Andrassy street, Bajza Utca metro and Heroes Square. Fantastic cafe almost next door. Tesco nearby. Within walking distance of main train station Nyugati and lots of attractions too many to list. Two metro stops from thermal baths.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room on the top floor if possible to take in the view.

We stayed in this hotel twice, the first time in October 2011, and the second time in February 2012.
The first time we went we travelled with a large group of music students and their parents, so we needed a hotel with good facilities and large accommodation scope. The hotel score fine in both respects, the rooms were mostly good sizes and in good order.
The second time we went only as a family and stayed in the same hotel because we knew the surroundings and that was important for our visit.
Would I recommend this hotel? No and this is why:

The attention to detail was at times frustrating, for example, the first night in October we went to our room and realised that in the soap/shampoo dispenser only a small drop of liquid had been left. Surely when one prepares the rooms should ensure that this does not happen!

Secondly, and most importantly, the staff was of a rudeness we have never encountered before. Starting from the waiters who never ever greeted us with a smile and who, at one point, literally took away the plate from one in our group, simply because he had taken food from the wrong buffet (we were not supposed to touch that food) -- stuff from a nightmare movie.
The reception desk staff was also appalling, always talking to us in an inquisitive way, as we were suspects loitering in the hotel trying to steal something.
On our departure day, when we went to collect the suitcases left in the locked luggage room, we asked politely to retrieve them, and the lady behind the desk looked at us suspiciously (she must have seen us dozens of times in the lobby and at breakfast) and asked abruptly for our room number! As if that was necessary, we were leaving and had cleared our room in the morning. Was that just to check that we were not doing anything illegal? Terrible way to behave. And in the end, when we exited the door, none of the people manning the reception greeted us, the just looked at us crossly.
It was an amazing experience, considering we were contributing to paying their wages with our stay.

Anyway, the hotel is fine enough and the price was certainly very keen, but I would never ever give those employees an opportunity to look after ourselves. At the end of the day, there must be a minimum in good manners that hotel staff should be aware of.

Room Tip: The hotel allegedly has two parts, a newer one and an older one. The staff makes a big deal in telli...
