We went up to castle hill as part of a free walking tour. The history of the palace and cathedral are interesting and the view is spectacular!

Looks all very nice, it has all been rebuild though around 1900 and after the war. Quite a steep walk up and down to Pest, but worth it.

This is an unfinished fortress designed for defending the city of the Turks attacks. It is on a hilltop of the Buda side of the city. The bus goes to the top and you can reach it by car (but beware very few car park spaces). The fortress is nothing special in design but it offers terrific views over the city.

The name of the place says it all. Its a castle on a hill. Its overlooking the Danube River looking out towards the Pest side of Budapest. If you are a photographer, this is a must place to go. Even if you are not, just looking over the view is spectacular. You can take the stairs to get up to the top (there are several) or you may choose to take a short Funicular train ride to the top. Once on the top, you can walk around the grounds of the castle and enjoy a view. Several eateries and cafes on the grounds.

We went up to the castle with the funicular, a cable-car that runs at the river side of the castle. The castle area is big itself. You can see the changing of the guards and the many statues around the courtyard. There's also visible the ruins of the old Budapest castle. Do take a visit to the Magyar Gallery in the castle area. The collection of art in there is extensive!
