“Wonderful Place”
Reviewed 12 July 2013

Varosmarty Square, named after a famous Hungarian poet, can be easily reached by Budapest Metro's yellow line, the second oldest metro line in Europe. The beautiful square has luxury stores, restaurants, banks and antique shops and is a great place to spend the evening. This is also the starting point of Budapest's famous shopping street, Vaci Utca

“Beautifull and old”
Reviewed 29 June 2013

This square has changed over the years but the essence is stil there. The square is named after a famous Hungarian poet, whose statue is in the centre of it. The oldest coffee and pastrystore Gerbeaud is situated there since 1870, they have the most delicious cakes and pastry. In front of Gerbeaud is the oldest entrance to the oldest metroline, the millenium underground M1. The hall of the metrostation is beautifully tiled in shiny off-white. There are still the old brown wooden doorpannels and ticketoffice box. Arround christmas time there's a traditional market with craftsman and food. In summertime you will find draftsman and painters to make the tourists drawings.
Since 2007 there's a new officebuilding at the donou side of the square, it's all made of glas and steel. It's huge and very modern, I believe a complete misfit on such an old square.

“Centrally based, it's the 'drink/eat' square”
Reviewed 14 May 2013

It's the start of Vaci st, which houses all the shops, bars and restuarants. There is a statue / monument there, and you dont need to go out of your way to see this Square, as it's in the centre so you will naturallt go through it.
