It's a really interesting square and at a very central location. I wish they had information plaques to inform tourists the stories behind all the statues. Perfect location for some really creative photographs.

I would have liked to have had a guide to explain the history of this huge square, but failing that take some photos and read up on it later. Can be combined with a visit to the Fine Arts Museum which is on one side of the square and is excellent.

We went there after recommendation from the tourist guide, she said that the evening with the lights on is the best. And it was spectacular!
I wouldn't consider going that 'far away' from the river without that recommendation (and it wasn't as far as it looks on the map as we walked!).

Definitely worth it!

Impressive, large open square - easy to imagine ranks of marching soldiers - but you must look for the rider on horseback who looks like a character from "Pirates of the Caribbean!!

Nice square, located before a big park and between many museums outside the park and inside it. It's an landmark of the city.
