“A bit dated but great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2010

If anything were to let this hotel down, it would be the location. Of course, this only applies if you're spending a short weekend visiting the city centre: the bus journey is 15 mins followed by the metro. However, as our meeting was very close by, Normafa was the obvious choice. The rooms were a little dated but they were clean. The entire hotel was somewhat overheated (which I understand is standard in Eastern Europe) but at least we could open the windows. The room featured an en suite with bidet, and in-room safe and tea/coffee-making facilities (a rarity these days). The breakfast was a standard continental buffet with some interesting (and delicious) Hungarian sausages. The Normafa Grill restaurant, attached to the hotel, served great Hungarian food and intriguing lemonade cocktails - well worth a try if you visit. The staff members were friendly and helpful. My colleague was complaining that the swimming pool was closed October-April, but considering it was iced over I wasn't about to dive in. The only real gripe I had was the gate to the car park. It sounded like a donkey and a canary having a fight and desperately needed oiling. We had to put up with that noise all through the night.

Overall, it's a neat hotel and worth a look if you're staying for more than a city break or have a car. After all, the price is right!

Me and my partner were in Budapest and the best thing in this city was Hotel Normafa. Familiar rooms, fantastic staff and very good breakfast. The surrounding is very relax, and the air is so fresh every day. We could have a rest as we wished! Thank you everything! We will get back!

I have been in Budapest with my family last week. We have found a good hotel on the slope of the hills. Hotel Normafa was excellent. The food was great, the staff was friendly and helpfull. Emi (the guest relations manager) organised programs for us. (private city tour in Budapest and in the danube bend, steam bath shows in the hotel.) The rooms are comfortable, the hotel is in the forest not far from the center.

We stayed her a while ago in February 2009. We stayed in the Family room which was perfectly adequate for my husband and i and our three children. It was particularly nice as the room had sliding doors to the children's sleeping area meaning we could get a little bit of privacy. The staff were friendly and spoke good english. The breakfast room was very light and spacious and doubled as the restaurant in the evenings. The breakfast was very good particularly the hot food cooked to request. They also had another restaurant but since we went off season they weren't both open at the same time very often. The location of this hotel is quite far out from Budapest center but the bus service is excellent though be warned you have to purchase your tickets before you travel rather then from the bus driver as it is in England. However the location is breathtaking. With a forest next to the hotel and the most amazing view of Budapest from just outside the hotel. As it's on the hill it is very snowy and they provided free sled hire for the little ones to be pulled around on. I cannot stress how pretty it is. There is also a great little strudel bar opposite the hotel which is prefect for warming you up with strudel and fruit tea, which is very popular with the locals.

I have spent 3 nights at Hotel Normafa in Budapest with my family.
I was amazing how beautiful the surrounding is. It was white everywhere, was snowing, lovely forest around the hotel.
A nice lady was welcoming us, offered private city tour and entertainment programs. The reception clark was very friendly, and helpfully. Nice room, quite, and comfortable.
We are really satisfied.

Very nice hotel with excellent breakfast and staff, nice rooms. Great place for a summer visit because of the nice outdoor pool. A 10-15 min ride with local bus from Moskva Tér in central Buda (runs until 11.30 PM I think).

After reading the reviews of this hotel , we were very excited about staying there. However when we arrived we were dissapointed , me and my daughter had a shabby room that was very small , and the bathroom smelled strongly of urine. We had no tea making facitilites. My husband and sons had more of a luxurious room with a lovely (nice smelling) bathroom which me and my daughter used most of the time, we stayed on half board which meant we could use the normaffa grill. The first night we ate there was lovely , but we were dissapointed to find the menu was very limited , there were only four or five things to chose from throughout our stay. Also we found we were treated as second class citezens and were ignored over the more favourable customer i.e the ones who were paying more. The food was very poor overall, everything closed on christmas eve they offered us a COLD christmas dinner , which was very poor. We found there was a limited choice of activities , so we ended up using the run down games room with a pool table that was not even. The bus service was excellent and was running regularly, Its easy to get into budapest and there are lots of things too see. Overall our stay was okay , but it could have been so much better and we were confused to see that the reviews were not the same as ours , all i can say is we must have stayed in a totaly different hotel!
