As so many desciped alraedy, hidden Place where you not sure whether this is the right Place or not. Don't let the outside decide your opinion. It was clean and service was every day basis. Breakfast was great in a sum of 2,5€. Breakfest waiter was excellent, real gentleman too. Worth of it! I was in contact beforehand to hotel and they arrange us a room with a balcony! Excellent service. Location was great! All shopping and restaurant near vy, max 5-10 min walk. Also Hop On/Off bus stop was ant 150 m away under the Elisabeth Bridge. I'm sure that if I visit again at Budapest I'm more that happy over night at Matyas again.

Room Tip: Take a contact to their service By e-mail in advance!

On arrival i was immedietly taken back by the look of this place. Entrance doors, lobby passageway and reception took me back in time and wondered about the last time this place had seen a coat of paint or any sort of improvement. Grubby, shabby and an odour of dampness specially when visiting the restaurant. Breakfast is O.K, nothing special. I will say that the rooms were very clean and most staff were pleasant and helpful.
The best feature is location. 2 minutes walk to the Danube and the bridge that links Buda to Pest and 1 minute walk to Vaci St.

Located right next to the Danube River and next to the bridge linking the Buda and Pest side of Budapest. Staff were helpful and they could speak very good English and German. The rooms are very clean, tidy and have all the amenities that you need for a short stay in the capital. This was my first time in Budapest and I would definitely stay again due to the standard of room, how close it is to all of the attractions and also it is near to the capitals nightlife and shopping districts! Would recommend the hotel highly.

There is a sign outside but once you climb the dreary grubby steps you may miss the sign to reception and following the dingy passage with lots of black and yellow tape denoting the steps you wonder what you have come to - and then there is a dreary but working reception and a charming receptionist who was not able to show us to our room as he was on night duty.

Armed with a code for a security gate, our card key and luggage we set out to return to the steps and take next flight and were relieved when the sensor light came on. We used the security gate but later discovered that the gate opened just by pushing it, and took the lift to the second floor where we emerged into total darkness and had to search our bags for a torch which revealed the light switch. We then had the choice of two outside galleries and discovered that one had a door with hotel room numbers on it. Our room key got us through and lights came on in the corridor lighting our way to a delightful spotless room with a view of the Danube, bridge and castle - all lit up! The bathroom was spotless and the beds really comfortable. Next morning we retraced our steps in the light to reception and then descended to the Matyas Restaurant for a really good breakfast - fresh fruit and yogurts, cereals, scrambled eggs and bacon, cold meats and cheese and lots of lovely breads. There were no pastries but that's always a bonus for a dieter! The restaurant was quaintly decorated with scenes from the life of the Hungarian King Matyas and we found it fascinating.

Looking around as we returned to our room we discovered that the hotel shares the building with lots of apartments and seems ashamed to declare that it is in residence! But the room and breakfast were great, the location cannot be bettered and it all comes at a budget price. We left early on our final day and were given a packed breakfast which kept us going for the entire journey back to our homes, it was delicious.

We had been told by a Hungarian friend that the Restaurant was worth visiting in the evening when there is live gypsy music and we loved it. If you want a meal you do need to book, and it is not cheap by Hungarian standards - but great value compared to UK prices.

If ever I return to Budapest I'll stay here again and I'm recommending it to all of my friends - as long as you have a pocket torch should you arrive in the night!

Room Tip: ask for a Danube view, ours was on the river corner on the second floor, higher may have been quiete...

The hotel is centrally located with almost all the key attractions close by, amazing view of the Danube and the Buda castle from the hotel room. But the hotel as such is very ill maintained, dilapidated walls with paints peeling off, lousy breakfast, under-staffed reception, AC vents only for show which doesn't work, looks more like a building from the early 1900's. And then we had to drag our luggage through a flight of stairs before reaching the reception. So if you are going with family and kids, think before booking.

The hotel is situated central to Buda and Pest, and very close to the river. Some rooms have views of the river. The view is pretty at night. The hotel is sited next to a main road so be prepared for traffic noise if you intend to leave windows open. Stayed there twice before for the convenience and the night view of the Danube. If you're not into night river views, there are other hotels nearby. Rooms there were generally clean and comfortable. One room I stayed in did have a slight musty smell. Another room was located next to some private apartments which we had to walk past to reach. The restaurant where breakfast was served is quaint and interesting. The breakfast buffet was fairly varied and adequate. The service staff were generally helpful and attentive. If you are looking for a conveniently located hotel without bursting your wallet, and if you won't be in the room most of the time, this hotel may suffice.

Room Tip: River view

A group of 8 of us stayed here for 4 nights. We were a little worried as we entered the hotel as the décor was old, dated and in need of repair. However, having checked in we found our rooms to be modern, clean and quite comfortable. The best thing about the hotel though is the location which is ideal for the Pest side and close to a bridge for the Buda side as well as the piers for the boat trips. There was a musty, damp smell on the walk down to the restaurant/breakfast room but once there it was okay. There was a good choice for breakfast. We found the reception staff both friendly and helpful despite earlier comments from reviewers. All in all quite satisfactory for a short stay at a budget price. I would certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Get a room that is not in the courtyard as it can be stuffy.
