“Nice place”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Nice place to be, rooms are generally ok, but can be cleaner. Breakfest was OK, but not for 4 stars. Great service, and very good location, close to all public transportation, and have free parking. Overall impression : very nice place, but it can be better

Dear dikobraz,

Thank you for staying in our hotel and writing your comment! Receiving the feedbacks and comments of our guests we started to improve our breakfast offer, giving our clients wider selection of food of fine quality, and giving more personal care in the breakfast area. I am sure that these changes will serve the satisfaction of our guests. I hope you come back to us soon and will try our new breakfast in the garden area, having a delicious champagne in the morning sunrise :)

Thank you again for your kind words and looking forward to you next visit!

Best regards,

I visited this hotel in February and I truly believe that my holiday would not have been as pleasant as it was without Hotel Mediterran.

Our room was nice and bug with comfortable sofas and armchairs.
On the down side, the bath tub was cracked wich didn't look particularly nice.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, they even gave us some toothpaste for free when we asked them where the nearset shop was to buy toothpaste.

The location is quite good with many possibilities to get into the centre of town. There are buses, trams to Deli Palyaudvar where you can get the red metro line, and also trams that take you to the hills . It's also very close to my favourite mongolian all you can eat restaurant .

Dear bviolamus,

I was happy to read your comment and satisfied words about our Hotel! Especially because you write how comfortable it is to get in the city centre area from our hotel. I must face that many times we are claimed to be located outside of Budapest, but in fact the central area of the city (Váci utca) is only 10-15 minutes by bus.

We underwent some reconstruction works in june inside and outside the hotel, so now we have new frontage image, new mattresses, new drinkbar design and some new furniture in the lobby area. Hope you can return soon and try our new services!

I am happy that we could make your stay so pleasant and I am really grateful that you shared your positive experience with all the tripadvisor readers!

As part of our EasyJet holiday, we stayed B&B at the Hotel Mediterran. It is an excellent value for money hotel situated behind the Citadel on the Buda side, not far from the city centre, with a couple of bars & restaurants (including the excellent Aranyhíd Étterem) close by plus Mom Park with its shopping mall, park & weekend farmer's market.
With tram & bus stops nearby, access to the main attractions, this beautiful city has to offer, is quick and easy & walking via the Elisabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd) isn't that bad even in the 35+ degrees we experienced during the heatwave.
The rooms are basic & homely, nothing really different to what you would find back home in a Travelodge (or similar for substantially more per pound, per night). The staff are welcoming & nothing seems to be too much trouble. During our stay, painters were working on the rear of the building & even they were friendly towards the guests.
I have seen some unfavourable reviews of this hotel, but they seem to be from people who were expecting Hilton quality, in the centre of the city, with a la carte menus. A bit of advice to those people........ You get what you pay for, so don't moan!
We plan on going back to Budapest again & will be staying at the Mediterran for sure!!

Room Tip: Ask for a non smoking room, as the laws on smoking in Hungary are different to the UK The lift only...

Dear Dave W,

Thank you so much for your review! And of course, thank you for recommending our hotel to other tripadvisor readers! :) As you mentioned the hotel has been re-painted in june, so we have new colour and front design, with new lights outside the hotel. Also I am happy to announce that in the middle of July we changed all the mattresses in the rooms, so from now we wait our guests with brand new, comfortable mattresses. Also king size mattress is available, 180x200 cm. We changed the strip floor in the drinkbar area, and we improved our breakfast service with wider selection of meals and more staff, to give more attention towards our guests.

I hope that all these changes will make our clients even more satisfied!

Thank you again and kind regards,

staff is okay, room and bathroom were okay, but the breakfast was a little bit poor compared to other hotels we already had at the same price. But the general score of the hotel was good. Unfortunately the hotel is situated out of the citycentre. There is a bus just around the corner to go to the centre, but as we also explored the vibrant nightlife of Budapest we had to take a taxi to get back to the hotel every night.

Dear WimvanOostende,

Thank you for taking time to write your review about our hotel here on tripadvisor! I am happy you liked our staff, and also that you found the room comfortable. We have just improved the quality of our breakfast according to our guests' feedback, so from now on we serve wider selection of sausages, cold cuts, fresh made hot egg meals, cheese, fruits, vegetables, cereals, muesli, bakery products and also we changed the breakfast drinks to 100 % juices. We wait our guests with champagne in the breakfast room, and also the garden area is opened for breakfast, so you can start you day with a fine meal in our green Mediterran garden. You mentioned our location and that you had to take taxi back to the hotel at night. There is a night bus from the centre that brings you directly to the hotel even at night! It goes every 30 minutes, and the number of this night bus is 908.

Thank you for your kind review and hope to see you soon again in Mediterran Hotel!

I was in Budapest for a meeting, so the hotel was perfect because of its location. I am not so sure if it is the best place to visit the city. The quality is not outstanding, forniture very simple, really small beds. Very clean. The best of the hotel was the staff , particularly in reception, they were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was just correct. Sauna and pool were availalble but at extra cost. The hotel is cheap, but I would not rate this hotel more than a 3-stars

Aside from a mix up when we arrived (we were put in a smoking room when it should have been non smoking but this was easily and quickly rectified) there are no complaints about this hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially the guy with the beard, and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. It is not a 5 star hotel but this doesn't matter is reflected in the price. It is within a few minutes tram ride of the city and all the sights. Highly recommended and I would be very happy to stay here again.

Dear Jonny M,

Thank you for your kind review about our hotel here on tripadvisor. I am happy that after the first mistake (giving you smoking room) my colleagues could make you feel satisfied and that you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for mentioning our location, cause sometimes we are categorized as an "out of centre" accommodation. The truth is that we are only 2 km far from Váci street, the Buda Castle, and also from Citadella. The public transportation puts the entire city, and the main sights within an easy reach in 15-20 minutes.

I am very grateful for your comment and hope to welcome you in our hotel in the near future!
