“Very good hotel not far from the center”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

The hotel is right next to a metro station, and also walking distance from the center of Budapest and the river. The rooms were quite big and clean, and the lobby is big and nice.

We found it a good base for Budapest tours. Breakfast was also very rich (did I say "Budapest"?)

Happy to read that you had a memorable stay in Budapest; and also that you could take the advantage of the central location of the hotel. Since you have traveled with your friends, it is our hope that you could try the entertainment facilities of Budapest.
Furthermore, it is nice to know that you enjoyed the wide selection of the breakfast. Thank you very much for highlighting the interior design – which is Art Nouveau style – and the lovely atmosphere of the lobby bar.

Ten of us (three families) stopped in this hotel for one week at the end of July, couldn't fault the place the staff were very friendly the hotel was very clean even the prices at the bar were very reasonable for a hotel,we stayed on a bed & breakfast basis and found plenty of choice and no problems with seating. The location of the hotel was spot on with a Metro station one minutes walk or a leisurely twenty minute stroll to the Danube, also quite handy for nightlife and eating out.All in all a great hotel.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms have double x double glazing and you don't hear a thing whereas side facing j...

Excellent place, close to the center of city about 1 minute walking to metro/tram/ buses, and approx.10 minutes walking to the Jewish quarter - which also includes good attractive- nightlife places, the breakfast was varied, satisfied and tasty.

I will recommend to ask for a beck room, since the front of the hotel is located on main busy street.

This hotel is also known as the Palace, my wife & I stayed there for 4 days in Sept 2012.It is classed as a 4 star hotel. From the outside, the lobby,& dining area i could give it 4 Stars but the corridors were unwelcoming with an awful brown carpet & a smell of urine along the corridors for 2 days. The room 318 could not be considered to be more than 1 Star & only big enough for a single bed,the carpet was grotty & needed to be washed as there was a path of compacted carpet where ever there was room to walk,There was approx 25cm between wall & bed on one side,& approx 35cm on the other between bed & other furniture,It was the same at the end of the bed .Basically two people could not pass. Two days into our stay we discovered that we had been put into the smallest room in the hotel,we complained on the third day,but as we had only one night left we put up with our situation. It was central, but not in a nice area of Pest.

Room Tip: Check out Room as soon as possible after checking in,it may not suit your requirements i.e size.

We do appreciate the time and care you took to evaluate Novotel Budapest Centrum. Your opinion is very important for us because we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer.

Thank you very much for highlighting the interior design of our bar and our restaurant. The hotel was built in Art Nouveau style which is related with modernity in services.

Besides that, we are very sorry if the room has not met your expectations. Although the building is under the cultural heritage protection of the city, the design is determined by the international standards of the Novotel brand. Therefore cannot be huge differences between the sizes of the rooms. However, if you had any inconveniences because of your room during your stay, let us apologize again. We are extremely vigilant to our guests’ satisfaction and we constantly strive to offer a high standard of comfort. It would be a pleasure to know that you still had an enjoyable stay with us.

This hotel is outstandingly adequate. The (standard) room was spacious and clean, sleep quality was excellent, maid service was satisfactory, front desk was responsive and efficient, breakfast was great, very attractive breakfast space and public areas, and we also made daily visits to the whirlpool and sauna to relax our muscles after long hours of sightseeing.

Location wise, if you're looking to experience old-world Budapest then you may want to stay closer to the inner city. Nightlife is more accessible (centred mainly in the old Jewish quarter and further north), though there always seemed to be a 15-minute walk whenever we wanted to go out. The hotel's location was great for grocery stores and currency exchange (scores of either) but how much of that do you really need when on a leisurely visit. Also public transit is super-accessible - metro, bus and tram literally at your doorstep - but again, we didn't make much use of that since most of what we wanted to see or do was easier to walk to. For a quick (well, Hungarian-quick) bite around the corner google a place called Jelen - Hungarian/Thai cuisine, casual setting and outstanding value which also got great reviews on TripAdvisor - but the hotel staff hadn't heard of it.

Why not 5/5? Well, this hotel simply doesn't stand out. More stylish room furniture and decor (art nouveau maybe, to go with the dining hall), a few free treats (I vote for a complete set of good-quality bathroom amenities, a complimentary small bottle of local white wine and chocolates), and a slightly more caring staff will turn this great but forgettable property into an unforgettable experience.

Room Tip: Email ahead to make sure you get a room which doesn't face the noisy front street. Although we h...

Very well located near Keleti Railway station but on a busy main street, Some great art deco in the publkc areas. Rooms were clean and modern but single beds rather small. Sound proofing is good but rooms have little outlook - either onto the busy street or into light wells.Good bar and restaurant.

During August we spent four nights in this Hotel. We needed a family room at an affordable price with good inner city transport links in Budapest. This hotel on the Pest side satisfied our requirements except for the room size, too small for our family. By booking early we were able to get very good rates excluding breakfast. We used the savings to pay for the delicious breakfasts in the historic dining room. Tram and Bus stops, small Supermarket were very short walk away. Hop on Hop Off bus stops around the corner. Luckily we did not book hotels on the Buda side, public transport links could have been limited. Competitively priced hotel good for singles or couples but for families room size found wanting.
