“If you want to indulge....”
Reviewed 1 November 2011

If you want to stay in a hotel in Budapest where you can indulge in luxury, this is the place. The staff is very helpful and polite. The concierge rebooked our restaurant reservation, booked our return minibus to the airport. The business center helped us to complete our e-check in ... All of this with a smile. The hotel features great conference facilities and restaurants. The most impressive is the dining and breakfast room in the huge patio between the two main buildings.
The room - we were lucky to get a large room at the connecting side between the two main buildings overlooking the patio - had all modern facilities such as free wifi, electronic safe etc. The swimming pool is an experience on its own. Breakfast is in one word complete...

The one reason why the hotel does not get the full 5 stars is the location. A couple of minutes away from the Oktogon intersection you still need to walk 20 minutes to get to Budapest's main attractions. Other 5 star hotels are all grouped close to the river. On the other hand, a walk via the Andrassy Ut is an experience in itself.

Dear PeterSGhent,
We would like to thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review of our hotel
following your stay with us. We are glad to read that you enjoyed the facilities of the
hotel. We will share your feedback with the concierge and business centre team. Although our hotel is not located bside of the river as you mentioned you could have a fancy walk accross the Andrassy street to get there or from the Octogon station the World Heritage Site Millenium Underground also goes there with only 3 stops. Also nearby the hotel some interesting sights can be found like the Opera House, House of Terror, Paris House the lively Franz Liszt square and the Pest Broadway.
We do hope we will be able to welcome you back in Budapest soon.

Kindest regards,
Mr. Szabolcs Szabo

We came here for out honeymoon in February 2011.

My husband picked the hotel, and he did a great job! From the outside, the Corinthia is a striking building architecturally, and is illuminated at night, while there are always doormen to open to door for you. It is situated on a pleasant wide road, a little bit outside the main streets, bit close to everywhere if you are up for a pleasant walk. We put on our walking boots everyday and walked everywhere...although there are trams and metro services on the doorstep too.

The inside of the hotel is just as striking, although it has been thoroughly modernised, with no period features, save for the ballroom. If you like historical buildings than do make sure to take a peek at this room, located towards the back of the hotel - it is beautiful, but easy to miss unless you go looking for it. I would have loved an excuse to hang out in there!

We were upgraded to an executive room, which was very nice although not overly fancy - the great thing about having an executive room was that we got access to an executive lounge area were complimentary breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks were served at various times throughout the day -lots of lovely cakes and things! The bedroom itself was a bit dark for my taste, but was clean and modern and very nice.

The cafes in budapest are fabulous, and the one in the Corinthia hotel serves the same beautiful cakes and tasty treats as the others in a lovely setting. We had dinner in the hotel once, there were several dining options to choose from; we chose the Thai restaurant. The food and service were great, although you can get better value for your money if you eat outside of a hotel. The hotel lobby, restaurants and bar areas were quiet enough in the evenings we were there, (although we were there during the week and in an off peak time of the year), so we often headed elsewhere for dinner or a drink to get some more atmosphere - however I'm sure during busy periods this would be a great place in the evenings. There is a nightclub in the basement, with it's own separate entrance but we didn't venture down there!

The spa is very spacious with a lovely pool. There are two jacuzzi's - I would have liked them to be hotter but this is just my personal taste! We didn't have any treatments, deciding instead to have massages in the public baths for a much cheaper price. However the staff seemed very professional, and I imagine the treatments would have been lovely.

When we checked out we asked the hotel to call us a taxi as we had previously been warned not to flag down a cab on the street as they can seriously rip you off. When we got in the texi the hotel had called, we told the driver the name of the train station we wanted to go to, and even pointed it to him on the map. When we got to the station we paid him and gave a tip. However on going into the station we realise too late that he had driven us to the other train station in Budapest on the other side of the city! In a rush to make our train, we had to hop in a taxi outside the station and when we finally arrived at the correct station he charged us an absolute fortune! While this was upsetting, we do not blame the hotel in any way but will try to be more cautious in future.

We liked this hotel so much that we will be coming back here in the new year to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary! I am hoping they will give us a free room upgrade so fingers crossed!

In Budapest end of June 2011 and stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. So glad the we stayed on the Pest side and not on the Buda side of town. Beautiful and elegant lobby and lovely suite on the 6th floor. Great service and staff. If you plan to have breakfast at the hotel, I urge you to upgrade when you get there to the executive package , which includes an excellent full breakfast and access to the executive lounge that offers free cocktails wine, beer, champagne, meal and snacks all day and into the evening for those who have access to the lounge. Try eating out at some of the well rated, less expensive places in the area because the cuisine is not much different than what you will find in the more expensive places. If you have time, visit some of the original baths in Budapest. The one at the hotel, while atractive,is not like the experience at the Rudas or Gellert, both of which have more of an old world feel.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms facing the front of the hotel if you prefer quite in the morning. Our suite at...

A nice 2-day break without the kids.
Extremely professionnal, smiley, helpful teams.
Marvellous place.
We had an executive room, with view in the lobby. Not so bright but enough for us. Very quiet. The bed was really comfy.
This room gave us access to the executive lounge where we had free everything : cocktails, snacks, breakfast...
The swimmig pool is quite good, and 4 people can swim at the same time without bothering each other.
Sweden massage was one of the best so far...

My mum and I stayed at the Corinthia for 3 nights as part of a long weekend in Budapest. We had a twin room which was lovely and clean and attended daily. Beautiful marble bathroom complete with bathrobes and the usual provisions. Staff all speak excellent English and are very firendly, always saying hello when they see you in the corridor. Breakfast wasn't included in our deal but could be purchased at 14 euros pp per day and was a huge buffet spread. We didn't need to eat again until evening.
The hotel pool and spa was wonderful with excellent massages available at extra cost. Service was really 5*. Transport to the hotel was also very easy with a tram stop just outside. I highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: If you're looking for a reasonably priced and busy weekend then the twin room/standard room is p...

This hotel is a perfect choice if you want quality for the money. The room was lovely. It was great to have wifi in the room. Hotel was very well kept and the breakfast buffet, which came with the executive room was perfect. Additionally, with the executive room, we had access to buffet snacks and drinks throughout the day...very nice after a day of touring. The location could not be better...You can walk just about anywhere within fifteen minutes or so. We also loved Bock Bistro, which is adjacent to the hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
