“unbelievable!”
Reviewed 12 March 2008

This is a must stay hotel. The staff were amazing, the hotel was amazing. The rooms are huge, with high ceilings, wonderfully decorated, a true 5-star hotel. We upgraded to the, I believe it is called the executive level. Every day they served an amazing breakfast. Salad and soups with breads and pastries for lunch and at happy hour they have meats and cheeses, canapes, pate's, fabulous stuff. All was free including drinks. They served, champayne, and wine all day. Budapest is a beatiful city, but the hotel was so incredible that you didn't want to leave. If you go to Budapest, this hotel is a must stay. Location was great as well. I can't think of a single thing to complain about. We traveled to Holland, Spain, Belgium and Hungry, because of this hotel, I like Hungary the best!

Have just returned from another magnificant stay at the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal in Budapest. It is without question the best hotel I have ever had the pleasure to stay in and it continues to impress time and time again.

Everything about this hotel is set and maintained to the absolute highest of standards and it oozes class from the moment you arrive at the front door. Every single member of staff I encountered throughout my stay greeted me with a smile, without exception.

The Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal offers a level of service which is second to none (for once an appropriate use of an overused phrase) and one would be hard pushed to find something to complain about. The Royal Spa is a breathtaking addition to an already specatular Hotel and is an indication of how the hotel is constantly upgrading itself to the benefit of it's residents.

I could go on forever listing the countless qualities of the hotel but the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal is the main reason I went back to Budapest and my latest visit has merely served to encourage me to become a more frequent visitor in the future.

My advise, go, sooner rather than later.

I stayed for 2 nights at Corinthia Grand Hotel and had an excellent stay! I can really recommend to book an Executive room since having access to the Executive lounge was really worth the extra cost.

Complimentary breakfast, lunch-snacks, afternoon tea and evening canapees with cocktails was served in the lounge and the variety of food was outstanding throghout the day. The staff in the lounge was very helpful and both check-in and check-out took place in the lounge.

The Royal Spa was breathtaking with the spectacular swimming pool in the centre of the spa. Spa treatments were top class and the staff were nice and service minded, couldn´t be better!

Regarding the location I found it a bit disappointing that the hotel was so far located from the river.

My husband and I stayed at the Corinthia Grand and loved it. The concierge was very helpful and even sent my shoe (a strap broke) out for repair, in addition to getting us great orchestra tickets.

The hotel is in a good location for tourist activities (just a short walk to their underground transit system) and seems to be popular w/ business people as well. The breakfast is amazing: cereals, fruit, cheeses, vegetables, meats, eggs, pastries, pastries, pastries.

The rooms are very nice and updated. All things considered it is a good value for the money.

Try to get a room that does not overlook the atrium where breakfast is served. I don't know from experience, but I imagine that it could be quite noisy in the morning.

We've just got back from a 5 day stay at this hotel with my parents. We had 2 executive rooms with use of the lounge, which was a great place to meet, for breakfast and early evening drinks. Do believe the hype..............the facilities were fantastic, the spa just beautiful. The concierge services - very helpful and knowledgeable staff provide a very personal service. It appeared that nothing was too much trouble. It was my husband's birthday during our stay, and the hotel provided a bottle of champagne and a card, which was a lovely touch. I could go on, but the reviews say it all. I would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel and would love to return.

To start off with the negative - I felt breakfast should have been more accessible and not charged at 25EURO per head. The mini bar was also disproportionately priced with peanuts costing 4GBP and a 1 liter bottle of Evian priced at a whopping 6GBP (surely this bottle was sourced in Lourdes!?).

On a positive note, the hotel was truly outstanding. Quite rightly the Titanic on land. It's an enormous hotel with so much character, but I would not refer to it as being pretentious, something which the New York Boscolo (5 star hotel just down the road) definitely was!! Saying that, I strongly advise to dress smart throughout your stay. It would ruin the ambiance if people were to be walking around as slobs.

Enjoy your stay!!

My husband and I spent an absolutely fantastic few days in the Corinthia Grand Royal Hotel in January. We booked the hotel limousine to collect us from the airport. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. Mind you, it was a lovely surprise to find that because we were 'guests of the day' we were upgraded to Executive Level - a real luxury! The hotel itself is a lovely building but the staff throughout were so well trained, friendly and always willing to help. The breakfast was something else! I feel you will travel far to see such a wide array of fresh food - fabulous! We also dined in the hotel restaurant in the evening and enjoyed very good meals and we did not feel they were overpriced for the quality. The Spa is a really relaxing place - tranquility and lovely treatments available. All in all, I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Budapest. We will certainly go back. Many thanks to everyone at Corinthia Royal for fantastic service.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
