I love luxury and I love it even more when I get value for money too. We booked this hotel via a comparison website and ended up paying around £80 per superior room with breakfast and I can truly say that the breakfast and the facilities at the hotel (spa, sauna, pool, steam rooms, bar and restaurant) are worth the price alone.
Everything that is important to me was taken care of, from arranging taxis and tours, to eating for a fair price in the hotel, fair prices on the mini-bar, free use of the gym, pool, sauna and wi-fi, everything you need here is provided. My partner requested soya milk and it was delivered in moments, anything you need is provided with a smile.
The perfect moment of service we experienced was with the breakfast staff, they remembered where we were sitting the previous day and asked us if we'd like to sit in the same place, they remembered what we'd spoken about yesterday from the orders they took to what we did the day before.
The breakfast buffet is immense with choice, omelettes to order, a range of 10 breads, a range of smoked fish including salmon, meats and cheeses, yoghurts, muesli, porridge, eggs, bacon, beans, mushrooms, fruit and even sparkling wine. You'll look forward to waking up in the morning!
Lastly and surely everyone's favourite facility is the wellness suite at the hotel, a swimming pool, sauna and range of steam rooms, treatments, saunas, massages are provided, all for free except individual treatments.
To weigh this rave review up, we did find the rooms really hot and have to open the windows for an hour before bed (this was in January) but this is the only thing we could find fault with and is really just a personal preference. If I come back to Budapest I will be staying here no question.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more less
