“Corinthia Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

A wonderful stay for a very good prize. We booked a superior room, wich was more than spacious enough. Excellent bed, bathroom & roomservice (very quick delivery). The spa is included (pool, jacuzzi, sauna,...), we went during winter so a very nice completion! Didn't took breakfast. Enjoyed the restraurant and bar with live piano! Spotless (bath)room, spa ect. I can highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel is stunning! The detailing, cleanliness and overall presentation of this historic hotel is very appealing. Arriving in the lobby is a spectacular sight - the grand staircase and shiny floor with statues flanking the sides. The rooms are very high spec, however the bed was a bit bouncy and not of typical quality one would expect. Something to note is that they turn off air conditioning in the winter so if you prefer a cool sleep you may need to request a room change as rooms... ours we couldn't get below 25 degrees (I prefer closer to 20 to sleep).

The breakfast buffet, albeit expensive, was one of the best buffet breakfasts I ever had, complete with champagne - this is a must for the stay!

The hotel location is great, within walking distance to Opera House and tram network, which will get you everywhere (or just walk, nothings is too far).

The staff were very professional and welcoming, especially at breakfast.

Then there's the pool/spa... bliss! Has to be one of the best pool/spas I've ever seen at a hotel and worth the stay alone. I believe it used to be the Royal Spa at some point, but it is a wonderful retreat with jacuzzi's, steam room, sauna, relax areas, showers.

Overall, this place shines for a romantic getaway, but would also suite any needs. Pricing in off season was also very reasonable.

We had decided for a while to choose the Corinthian for our trip to Budapest. What sold us was the breakfast and grandeur of the hotel.

Our stay was mostly good.

The staff were very professional and the breakfast lived up to expectations. By far it was the best breakfast we had at a European hotel. What a great start to the day.

The room was modern but as people have talked about before, there's not enough lighting. Strange that that's the case.

No one comes to Budapest to watch TV, but for a five star, the channels were lacking. Just the bog standard news channels. Also, we asked for a quiet room and while the room itself was OK, we were woken up on our first night by rattling boiler pipes. It was really loud.

We didn't say anything and on our next two nights it was OK, but on our last night it happened again. There was a funny, musty smell in our room throughout. We called housekeeping and the nice lady sprayed some stuff in there but she also acknowledged the smell wasn't right. We didn't bother asking to change rooms.

The locations, for us, was really good. It was about a 10-15 minute walk to the Chain Bridge and we walked everywhere, including to the parliament buildings and across the bridge. Budapest is a gorgeous city and the people were super friendly.

We'd definitely go back and if so, would stay at the Corinthian with some minor tweaks.

We have just returned from a long weekend at the Corinthia Budapest. Easily the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff are incredibly professional, friendly and attentive, the range of food available for breakfast is superb and the whole place is spotless.
We had a room on the fifth floor which was spacious and comfortable. There is a spa, chinese restaurant, brasserie, patisserie and nightclub all attached to the hotel and in the evenings, you will hear beautiful live string quartet or piano music echoing through the huge, glass ceilinged atrium of the building. A fabulous stay, you won't be disappointed!

The staff make this hotel a very nice experience. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine on the day was a very nice touch. Throughout our weekend the attitude of the staff was exemplary: reception and concierge were particularly helpful The Rickshaw and Brasserie restaurants were first class with excellent quality food and service. A shame the Bock Bistro closes on Sundays as we wanted to try it. The only downside was that the aircon didn't work (apparently this was normal during cold weather) which made the room somewhat warm and stuffy at times. I would certainly go back to the Corinthia if in Budapest.

My wife and I have had the privilege to stay at several luxury properties but nothing matches the Corinthia in Budapest when it comes to service, attention to detail and going that extra mile. Nothing was too much trouble! Would come here again and again and again.....
The restaurants, the spa and the live music within the hotel are great. A special thanks to Monika in the spa, Zsoltan and Silvia in the concierge, Anna in the brasserie and Bogurska (excuse the spelling!) in the executive club. Thanks for a very memorable Valentines.

Room Tip: Absolutely worth upgrading to the Executive room and club.

Having stayed at Corinthia Budapest about 10 months ago, my wife and I decided to go back for another stay. Again, we have been impressed by the staff in general. However, the crew at the concierge and the Excecutive Club, were once again outstanding. The hotel have all good reasons to be proud of their staff.
One minor hint if your sleep is easily disturbed: Saturday night is obviously party-night in the neighborhood, waking me up at 3AM. Not very noisy, but enough to keep me awake...I called the hotel operator, who was very apologetic about it. Less then ten minutes later, we had been offered another room. Slept wonderfully the rest of the night. The problem is not caused by the hotel, but the staff handled the situation with excellence. Hope to come back in the future...!

Room Tip: Be aware of some partying in the weekends in adjacent properties. If you are easily kept awake, the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
