From the moment you walk into this hotel, you know it's special. Beautifully decorated and spacious with an amazing atrium, the staff are very attentive and polite. Our room was large and had everything we needed. The bar was a bit expensive, but you are getting a waiter service and a pianist, so can't complain. We would definitely return.

After reading Tripadvisor reviews, we decided to stay at the Corinthia to celebrate my husband's birthday. We followed advice and upgraded to an executive room. The room was fantastic, service excellent, spa beautiful, position of the hotel very good and the ability to access the executive lounge for snacks and drinks resulted in a very special stay. I highly recommend this hotel and will definately go back. Thank you to other tripadvisors for your reviews!

One word of warning though, avoid taxis in Budapest if you can- we were badly ripped off flagging a taxi down on the street. The hotel told us that, unfortunately, this is a common occurance. If you do need a taxi, let the hotel book it for you.

My wife and I chose this hotel for a city break in Budapest, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is well placed for all the sights. It is a wonderful hotel, with all possible ameneties and briliantly attentive staff. The food in the three resatraunts can only be described as superb, and It is worth a trip to Budapest just to stay there.

Reviewer: A traveller from London

We just returned from Budapest after staying at this hotel for four nights. We chose this hotel after reading the reviews in tripadviser. It is a superb hotel as described and the service is very satisfactory. The only negative point to make is, when we first entered the room there was a bottle of water on the table which we thought was complimentary like other five star hotels but this cost us nearly £10.00 including tax. We did not know it will be charged but was written on the bottle which we overlooked.
The hotel is in a very convenient location and the architecture and the decor are amazing.
We will defenitely recommend this hotel.

We booked our stay here on a ba.com special offer and so got a deal that included breakfast. The rooms were large and comfortable with all the facilities you'd expect in a 5* hotel. Ours had a great view of the atrium and out through the floor to ceiling glass front of the building. The hotel has a spa (pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, treatments, gym etc) that is reached by lify directly from whichever floor of the hotel you're in. The spa got a little busy early in the evening but wasn't crowded and the staff were very polite and helpful. This hotel also had the best breakfast I think I have ever had at a hotel with a buffet selections of juices, pastries, breads, cold meats, fish, salad, cheese, cereals, pancakes, waffles, hot buffet incl eggs (boiled, scrambled, fried or florentined and omelettes made to order!), meats etc. The staff all spoke very good english and were friendly and helpful at all times. The concierge was particularly helpful in recommending tours, thermal spas etc and tickets could be bought in the hotel. All in all thoroughly enjoyed the stay!

I stayed at this hotel the last two times I went to Budapest, I've also stayed at Le Meridien in Budapest but the overall experience in the Grand Hotel Royal was the best although the location may not be as good as some others. The rooms are large with sitting area and a very comfortable king size bed, service from hotel staff is excellent, concierge is very helpful. It's about a 20 minute walk to the Danube river and is very close to the shopping area...Budapest shopping is quite awful though. The only downside of this hotel is the hotel food and room service food was not good at all. For the price of rooms, it doesn't get any better than this.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
