“Magnificent Hotel”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

Brilliant hotel, very ornate and well presented lobby, rooms and spa. Room very spacious and well furnished, excellent bathroom. Roof top terrace a nice touch for football World Cup. Staff exceptionally helpful. Highly recommend. The spa was fabulous; great sized pool, excellent jacuzzis, sauna and steam rooms. Very salubrious. All round great hotel.

Attended a 3 day business meeting held at the hotel. Great location for exploring Budapest especially if you like to walk as you can get plenty of interesting exercise. I found the service at the SPA to be fabulous and took advantage with two massages over 3 days. The room was extremely comfortable, the staff very friendly and the food was first class.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights during June 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean, with helpful and friendly staff. Our room was spacious and well furnished with a lovely big, bright bathroom and fluffy robes for use during the stay. We visited the spa which was beautiful and very quiet considering the size of the hotel. We utilised the hotel vehicles (Mercedes) for airport transfer which was the same price as taxi - excellent service. The only slight issue we experienced was that the room was very warm, despite air conditioning unit. Window did open but it opened onto an atrium not fresh air. I would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

The hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Budapest. Metro and tram stops are conveinently located nearby. The Jewish Quarter is 10 minute walk -- easy access to all the restaraunts and bars.

The rooms are well appointed and have plenty of space. I do agree with other comments that the air conditioner could work a bit more effectively, but that's a relatively minor issue. We loved the Royal Spa -- which was a special bonus for our stay. If you are a bit of a culinary adventurist than Bock Bisztro located within the hotel is a must. Certainly one of the top 5-10 spots in the city.

Also, I would like to call out in particular the wonderful service of the concierge staff, in particular, Zoltan. He was able to arrange an excellent tour guide for us in Tokaj and provided us with a lot of helpful advice on where to stay. He was also able to get us into Borkonyha at 9pm on a Saturday at short notice (it's Michelin star is well deserved). That was a great capstone to our Budapest trip.

We stayed at the Corinthia hotel over Christmas (yes, tad late writing the review!) and thought it was a lovely hotel which is close to shops, restaurants and a quick drive from/to the airport. We did find though that the rooms were too hot and the air con didn’t make much difference. We also found the bed uncomfortable but Reception promptly rectified this by changing over our mattress and solved the problem. Budapest is a lovely city but personally we wouldn’t go over Christmas again as we found a lot of the restaurants, shops and museums were closed. I would thoroughly recommend visiting Budapest and staying in this hotel over the warmer months.

We were travelling from Paris to Budapest in 35°C, so when we arrived, we wanted check-in to be very quick, and once we parked next to the hotel, someone immediately offered to park the car in their parking and brought our lugages in our room. Check-in took 2 minutes.
The rooms were gorgeous with big comfortable beds and a bathroom with shower and bath, bathrobe and slippers. Many international channels on TV.
The reception was the best, before we left we spent hours enjoying the big roof and the decoration. We loved the air-conditioning in the reception after being in a 40°C Budapest
The wellness area was wonderful, richly decorated and unforgettable, though U16 kids are allowed in the wellness area only beetween 11 AM and 3 PM which very very painful when staff asks my 15-year old who was just swimming to get out of the pool at 3:01 PM...
The palace was really well located, next to Boscolo Palace and metro and tramway station.
We haven't tried the breakfast because 29€/pers/night is too much compared to local standards, we had breakfast for 40€ for 4 person in a coffee shop right next to the hotel.
In the hotel there are 3 expensive restaurants and a souvenir shop where you can buy train tickets.
Globally we were impressed by the decoration everywhere, the rooms, the bathrooms and the reception, which is like a main hall. Surely the best in hotel in Hungary.

This hotel is in a magnificent building which has been updated and modernised to provide contemporary and luxury accommodation. The lobby is slick and clean with vases of wonderful flowers on every available surface. The main restaurant is stunning.
I stayed 5 nights in the executive club room. The executive club provides complimentary food and beverages (including alcoholic drinks) all day and into the evening. Its lovely to sit with a nice drink in the quiet lounge after a day of sight seeing. I recommend you book the executive room. There is the most attentive waitress I have seen at the executive lounge - Greta is just fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble and she is so polite and professional - a credit to the hotel.
The spa area has been wonderful to sooth those tired legs after the day out.
Room service was very nice and very prompt - the meals are quite large.
The hotel location is about 15 minutes walk to the river. If you are after luxury in a wonderful building, then I would recommend the Corinthia. If you want to be closer to the river, you will pay more and get less.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the main road - ambulance and police sirens go all night and there...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
