“A great place to stay”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Whilst this hotel may not be overlooking the Danube, it is in a good central location and the river is only a 15 minute walk. What makes this hotel stand out is the excellent service and good facilities. The staff cannot do enough to help and are always doing their best to make you feel welcome. Breakfast is excellent. The Thai/Chinese fusion restaurant is average but then it is in a hotel. Try the local Dreher beer its excellent. The gym is small, only 4 machines plus a couple of bikes and crammed into a small room (the mirrored walls help to avoid it feeling cramped). Once there are 3-4 people in their it feels crowded. The spa is great, all you could want and a good sized pool for a hotel. It does get busy at times though. If you are staying in Budapest, consider this hotel in your plans, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: The rooms over the internal atriums tend to quieter, especially the atrium without the breakfast are...

We have stayed in many top hotels but none better than this. A warm welcome from our executive club concierge and recommendation to a superb restaurant for our first night. This hotel makes you feel really special and the staff are warm and welcoming. It's been a privilege to stay in this beautiful hotel ..:)

This Hotel deserves the designation 5 stars. Gracious door men greet you upon arrival move your luggage from door to door and zip your car to covered (fee must be paid,) parking. The staff greets you warmly and speak multiple languages. We chose a special room rate via their web site, (3 for 2) and with the Executive package. What that entailed was the "special room" on the mezzanine level that offered breakfast, lunch snacks, cocktails and evening sweets & tea & coffee. The room was 1212, a view of the atrium on one side, the hotel lobby area on the other. The German 19 & under football team had just won the equivalent of the world cup at a match here on Thursday and had the Brassiere Atrium reserved for a private dining reception. As we were sitting down to our late night dinner on our first night we heard them enter, singing the (for lack of a better interpratation,) fight song. As they finished their song we thought, great, we're one floor above them off the atrium, so much for a good nights rest. We expressed our interest to the hotel staff and they assured us that our stay would be plaesurable and they would monitor the party. After we entered our room, not a peep thereafter was heard form the victorious team. Two rested nights later I am writing this review. This was a great stay.

Room Tip: Look online for booking specials and request a courtyard room. Spa was nice although we didn't...

This hotel is probably the most fantastic place that we have ever stayed in. The room itself is equal to other five star hotels but the hotel itself is simply grand! The walkways over the dining area and the courtyard add a special touch.

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

The Corinthia is an extravagant hotel. Extravagant in architecture, amenities and furnishings. I had a superior King room, which was enormous by European standards, and reasonably comfortable (I found the bed too firm). Although the staff all work very hard, and seem to be extremely efficient, friendliness and warmth is not something I frequently encountered in the six nights I stayed there. In fact, they often seemed robotic. This is a large hotel and I saw many large tour groups come through (a large negative to me, but may be a reflection on emphasizing efficiency over warmth). I also don't think the location is ideal as other reviews have indicated- to me public transportation and 5-star hotels are mutually exclusive. So plan on lots of taxis if you are a travel snob. I tend to walk everywhere when I'm in Europe, and would have preferred a more centrally-located hotel.

Hi,

This is a wonderful hotel , located centrally in Budapest and right on a busy road. Access for travel anywhere is easy. Getting a taxi or catching a Metro train was not a problem at all .

The hotel building itself is majestic and the interiors reflect the ~ 100 yr heritage . The Breakfast is served at the Brasserie and the spread is nothing short of amazing ! The service is exellent and the staff are extremely courteous .

There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel , with varied cuisine - Italian , Mexican and traditional Hungarian as well . The Starbucks just around the corner provided a refreshing ambience and a strong cup of coffee when required.

i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Budapest , on holiday or business !!
regards
R

Beautiful hotel, great service and at a very reasonable price. Although we would have preferred to be around the Vaci area, the hotel is close to the metro line, some good restaurants on Kiraly and not too far from Heroes Square.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
