Fortuna Boat Hotel & Restaurant
Ranked #145 of 334 Hotels in Budapest
Reviewed 5 August 2013

We made a reservation for a double standard room during the hottest days of August…
The only good thing about this hotel was a nice morning and evening view to the river and the constant flow of any kind of boats and cruises, this was really interesting....
I wonder how the stars are been given to the hotels lately, this hotel is maximum a 2 stars hotel if not less. The staff is just ok...there is nothing special to expect from them in terms of generosity and help. The rooms are really small and specially the bathroom-wc, I guess about 1. 55 square meters and generally you can barely move inside the room. The windows cannot be opened and even the curtains are small what makes difficult to close them properly, as a consequence of this, there is really a bad air atmosphere in the whole boat what they try somehow to mask using air fresheners, the air conditioning device was supposed to be delivering 5 degrees...and it was instead actually delivering around 20.....There are also any kind of barriers in the hotel and from the moment you are getting on you could be having problems and possibly falling down…. The ceiling is considerably low...so if you are about 1.80 m and above....you will be certainly also having problems. On the other hand, shower gel was awful and even missing, towels really old as well as the pillows and so on….we were also constantly hearing other's people wc and steps all night long, very bad noise isolation...
As for the food….breakfast was just standard…do not expect anything out of this world…each salam, cheese, bread, hot dogs and so on…are just very standard at the most…possibly the best things were the fruits…we were given some discount card for the hotel’s own restaurant and when going upstairs to eat….just the view was ok….there were any kind of insects around the tables and the staff did not seem professional at all, so we just decided to go eating somewhere else…
These are just a few things from our stay. I would definitely never make a reservation for this boat again…there are many other options in Budapest that even when being a few more euros expensive…are certainly better located and offer a better service…

Room Tip: rooms to the river give you a better view....anyway my best tip is...expend between 20-60 euros more...

We arrived in Budapest one week after the floods in June , not knowing what to expect. All was well , boat still there! While the cabin is a bit on the small side for two people - it was easier taking shifts to unpack etc , the time spent in cabin is small . The restaurant on the upper deck has the best position in Budapest to view castle and Chain Bridge lit up at night. Very reasonably priced . The breakfast was a definite highlight and unexpected , huge choice for every taste , cooked breakfast , continental , cereals, cake, etc and plentiful . Front desk very helpful . A bit of a walk into CBD until you get to grips with the buses then its fine from Margaret Bridge to centre . We found having the 72 hour travel pass meant criss crossing the city was easy .It includes metro , buses and trams which we hopped on and off all the time .Big bus tours great value if you are short of time . Included tour by night , a river cruise and entry into one of four spas in the city. We chose Gellert as it was a tram ride away , then crossed over the bridge. It was a great experience , needs a half day to do it justice .I went for 2 hours prior to leaving for the airport and it was so relaxing .

Nice little hotel. The fact that it is a boat is really quite charming. Interior is simple but sufficient and everything is very clean. Breakfast buffet was also simple but good. The location is perfect for sightseeing.

We stayed here on a short city break last year having found it on a comparison site. It seemed like excellent value for the city and within walking distance of all attractions for us. It certainly fit the bill. The breakfast was plentiful and the rooms were adequate size. The terrace on the boat where you could enjoy a drink well into the evening had as good a view of the Danube and its beautiful bridges and buildings as other hotels overlooking the river that would cost a huge amount more - it really was a pleasant surprise. Excellent value. Only minus is that people with limited or difficult mobility would not manage staying here - very narrow steeps stairs and no space around the basic room beds.

Room Tip: Try and request a room on the side of the boat overlooking Margitsziget island.

My parents, my teenage son and I spent a week here before joining up with our river cruise. This is my second stay at the botel and my parents fifth stay. It is walking distance to transport and just a stroll to everything. We love how convenient it is! Breakfast is plentiful, the dinners very tasty and the price is right. It makes a trip to Budapest very affordable. Our criteria for accommodation is a comfy bed, a hot shower and breakfast. We received this at the botel and more. Living on a boat is a unique experience and the whole setup is very quaint. The views from our room and the decks are magnificent and having a meal, a drink or a coffee with views of the fishermans bastion, st matthews and margaret bridge is the best. This is seeing Hungary as it is. If you are a fussy or picky person who expects pristine, dont stay here- go and stay at a sterile hotel. If you want a real taste of Hungary and something different, you must stay here! There are backpacker rooms as well with share bathroom which my elderly parents stayed in a few years ago for 5 weeks. We love this place! My teenage son who is travelling for the first time wanted to live here forever. Friendly, helpful staff who speak English.

I was here in December, during Christmas and had booked this through HiHostels.
The place was a bit difficult to find because of lots of other boats docked along the river.
I got a room that looked out to the island and the other side. I had no difficulty sleeping, considering that I was skeptical about the boat bobbing up and down on the waves. It was quite nice. It was good value for money, and the bill was settled when I left.

There are no supermarkets or restaurants nearby. I had a decent dinner on a nearby boat, but that was it. The nearest shops/ snack outlets are where the tram stop is, so I;d recommend having a bottle of water and other necessities before you walk all the way to this place.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the river have a better view.

We stayed here over New Years. It was a great location, with everything touristy within walking distance. The breakfast was average. The room was quite small and cramped. The air con didn't work and the room was very hot. It was good as a novelty, but maybe only for 1 night.
