Hotel is cosy, quiet and very well located on the hill with outlook of Budapest. Breakfast is in the nice light room with the view of the square. Room was quite OK and comfortable. Parking possible for free in the square in front of the hotel. You need to have the parking bill ( from the machine at the entrance to the center of Buda) validated at the reception, then you will not pay anything. But better ask receptionist how it works now.

Located on the Buda side of Budapest in the castle district.

Clean easy to navigate, clean rooms, polite staff, everything working as it should, no bugs.

I couldn't think or find anything wrong with this hotel, the only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because it knows it's a budget hotel - but extremely recommended for the value, location and overall ambiance.

You are in the Castle district directly, and I mean DIRECTLY, opposite the iconic and splendid Matthias Church, on the most prominent point of "Castle Hill". Not even the Hilton Hotel has a view like ours! We were given Room 105, with a view of the fountain in the middle of the square, and about 10 metres from the front door, and looking at the fabulous facade of the Church. To call it a "church" is really doing it an injustice. It's a Cathedral in every sense of the word. But our Hotel, although only officially three stars, is (relatively) modern, has air-conditioning (if you ask for the remote at the Reception desk), very big rooms, an in-room safe (for an extra two Euros per day), a second floor breakfast room, not much storage and all of four coat hangers. But the staff speak English, are helpful and enthusiastic (especially booking taxis to the river cruise docks), and the breakfast - essentially a Continental breakfast repast - is on the second floor (i.e. above most of the guest rooms). Being in the middle of the Castle Hill action, you're surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants and cuisines. In short, unless you're prepared to pay Hilton prices, why would you stay anywhere else?

Room Tip: Room 105 almost touches the Matthias Church and, at night, is reasonably quiet and, by day, has a pe...

This hotel is in a stunning location in the heart of the touristy bit of Buda. We had a room at the front and the view was spectacular. However, the room was distinctly dowdy and uninspiring. Staff were very friendly and cheerful and breakfast was ok but not great. If visiting Budapest again I wouldn't stay in Buda as it is easy enough to get to from Pest and the east side of the river has much more choice of eating places and accommodation.

The Burg Hotel is situated on Castle Hill, opposite Matyas church, in the heart of Buda Old Town. We were lucky to have a front facing room, with magnificent views over the river Duna (Danube) and the Pest side of the city. Despite this central location, it was quiet at night.

We were made very welcome on arrival, and the receptionist was most helpful with all our queries.

Our top floor room was spacious, comfortable and clean, with air conditioning, but somewhat sparsely furnished.

The buffet breakfast (included in our room price) was excellent, with hot dishes as well as cold meat & cheeses, fruit, cereal, toast, yoghurt, etc.

A couple of tips: Castle Hill has limited access by car, and it is expensive to park. Instead of hiring a car, we pre-booked airport transfer by mini bus at a reasonable rate. There is a very good bus service (No. 16) running every few minutes across the Chain Bridge to Pest in one direction, and to the Szeli Kalman interchange for trams, metro and buses to all parts of the city in the other. Tickets must be obtained before boarding, however, from any metro station. There is a good selection of cafes and restaurants at all price ranges within a few minutes walk of the hotel.

All in all, we would recommend this hotel highly.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor, under the eaves, are larger. Rear facing rooms look over a courtyard; ask fo...

This was our second trip to Budapest, and this hotel was recommended by a work colleague. I am so pleased we took up the recommendation as this hotel was perfect for us. It is in the heart of the Castle District, which is like a fairytale part of Budapest. The reception arranged the transfers to and from the airport, and the taxi driver gave us some tourist tips all the way there. He remembered us on the way back, and asked what we had seen during our stay which was good 'book-ends' to our stay.

The room was large, with an en-suite shower room. There was a couch, and desk and chair, and a TV. We had a view from the window of the cathedral and view out across the square and Fishermans Bastion - there is no charge at night to walk along the ramparts and take photos of Budapest by night, either.

There is a small lounge on the ground floor of the hotel where you can buy a drink. Breakfast was good and set us up for the day.

The castle district can be seen from most of Budapest as it is lit up all night. There is a bus (16 or 16A) that takes you up and down. We bought a 7 day public transport ticket which is the best value over there, and you can hop on and off buses, trams, metro, and normal trains. This makes the whole of Budapest accessible, and if you collect a map from the airport on your way in, it details all the different routes and stops.

There is so much to see, and so many restaurants to visit that I totally recommend Budapest for a city break. I am already pining for the place, and would happily visit for a 3rd time!

Room Tip: Lots of stairs so beware if you are disabled.
