We've been coming here over the years. It's a great value. It was $61 per night

It's located on the Pest side of Budapest, in a quiet residential area. Located very close public transportation that will give you access to he city and to the suburbs near by. Via public bus, we went to Momento Park, which is a place some old Soviet statues were placed after the fall of communism. Our friends liked seeing the suburbs on the way to the park.

We stayed for 4 nights, so we bought a weekly city transit pass that covered public transportation.

We arrived on a Saturday and were greeted by a woman who seemed like she had been up all night at a trance party and came straight to work. Needless to say, our first impression wasn't great, but it quickly improved after meeting the regular breakfast host (Jasmin?) the next morning and the owner, who is usually around during the evenings. We rented bicycles and he was nice enough to allow us to keep them on the back terrace at night instead of in the front close to the building.

The place is definitely a little off the beaten path, but it's a nice 1/2 hour walk to Pest (where you should get an excellent thai massage at Sa Bai and/or stop at the Gellert baths along the way) and easy to get to by tram as well. The breakfasts are pretty good and guests are seated family style, which is a pleasant way to meet other guests. Not a luxurious place (there are no TVs in the room, etc), but very friendly and a good value.

Room Tip: The room that overlooks the garden (in the back) seems the best, even though it's not the one we...

Should you manage to reserve a room, you're in for a treat. You'll be at home, not in a hotel nor even in a bed and breakfast, which is what Abel Pansio actually is. It's a quirky place -- booze set out for guests on the honor system for starters. Home-made modern art on the walls. A veranda over a ramshackled garden. Cheerful young staffers. Easy to get laundry done as well.

Room Tip: One front room has a terrace street-side

Very charming small hotel. Staff is very friendly, street is green and quiet (but not a country-like) street. It can be easily reached by tramline 61 (via metro-station Szell Kalman ter, (on old maps called Mozskva ter), dir. Moricz Zsigmund korter, stop at Szürell utca.) Good breakfast. If you like art nouveau/jugendstil, this is the place to be. Prices are very reasonable.
Tip: on Szell Kallman ter you can go very fast to the old center of Buda (Matthias church etc) with bus 16 or 16a. From there to the center of Pest (Deak ferenc ter) with 16.
We liked it very much there!

The staff, the stay, the standards, and the setting at Abel Panzio made our trip to Budapest wonderful. The owner and his staff were extremely accommodating with polite service, friendliness and attention to helping us get around Budapest. For example, when leaving we had a early flight and they packed a hearty breakfast to take with us. Our private room was large and very clean. The main room for relaxing, reading, and having breakfast comfortable, cozy and old world classy. It was a great way to connect with fellow travelers for food and conversation. The tram with quick connection to the Metro was very convenient. The neighborhood was a quiet relief to the hustle of the city. A nearby, small restaurant was quite affordable, delicious and enjoyable. Overall, Abel Panzio was a perfect match of value and comfort. Scott and Sylvia/ USA

Room Tip: The first floor room with the three large windows to the street with a high ceiling was very spacio...

we spent 4 or 5 days in a double room with private bathroom, I can only say good things about this place, people in charge was very friendly and of great help. They not only made us feel at home for those days but they provided a lot of info regarding the places we wanted to visit.
Their location is not in downtown but in a quiet lovely place two blocks away from the bus. There was also a trolley very near, actually at the end of the block, that took us to the castle. Great place for the value, clean and safety.

I stayed in this wonderful pension in January 2012 for 7 nights. It was exactly what I was looking for: conveniently located (a 15-minute walk to Gellert Hill or a short tram ride), friendly, quiet and clean. But it was also more than that - a beautifully converted villa with the most kind and lovely owner and helpful staff, interesting guests, a lovely welcoming atmosphere, Hungarian art on the walls. I stayed in a double room (with en suite) which had lovely beams, plants and sky-lights and a huge desk (as a writer, this was beyond perfect). I felt more like I was staying with friends or family than in an anonymous hotel. Next time I'm in Budapest I will make sure I am staying here!
