We had a perfect stay at New York Boscolo hotel for 4 nights las April. Very good service (room cleaning was not very punctual but was spotless to us), perfect room and facilities. Very good location also. Spa is great but the pool is quite small though. Overal great stay and good value for money (booked by octopus travel had a special offer for 150 euros/night and a free stay)

I recently stayed for 4 days at the New York Palace, Budapest. I was very disappointed by the hotel but especially the staff and service.

It started quite well, we were upgraded from a Junior Suite to an Executive suite. the room was beautiful. However although we were on the 5th floor you could here all the traffic. The suite had double glazing BUT the doors did not have a proper seal so you could hear traffic, cars hooting and sirens 24hours a day. I ended up sleeping on the sofa. The rooms at the back of the hotel have consruction going on below them and the hotel is surrounded by a busy road. So you get no peace whichever room you stay in.

Another suprise was how badly designed the bathroom was. The room was big, but had a tiny bath (you couldnt lie in it and I'm 5ft4) and the shower was also tiny (2.5ftx3ft). And I agree with other comments made on this site about their plumbing system. The bath took 20mins to fill as the water trickled out and when you took a shower the water constantly fluctuated from hot to warm whilst you were showering.

The hotel looks very impressive, stunning even. However, its in a poor, low class neiboughood with junkies and gypseys everywhere. Also a Peep show behind the hotel (may please some!!). So no noteworthy sights close by. You have to get a taxi everywhere. The hotel does not have its on cabs (unlike The Four Seasons and Intecontinental) Drivers were generally miserable and rude - i was told off by one because I opened a window whilst he had the air conditioning on.

Most of the staff at the hotel were miserable, apart from the Head Concierge (Aaron). The breakfast was poor, the omelette station was always unattended and the person rude and miserable. I informed the staff the ham in the Cold cuts section had gone off. there was only 3 different kinds of processed and pre-packed meat. hardly any fruit and staff not once smiled or said good morning.

At breakfast we saw the same staff for 4 days. They never once smiled, said good morning, nothing! I found them arrogant and rude. I have never seen anything like it. When we went to pay £2,000 for our stay, we never got a "Thank you" or "We hope you enjoyed your stay", not even a - "Have a safe flight" NOTHING. I was shocked. I have never experienced this lack of hospitality in all the years I have stayed in 5 star deluxe hotels - this is definately not one of those.

We went to the Four Seasons for lunch to see what it was like. The service was immpecible. Couldn't do enough. They actually called us by name!! We were at the New York Palace for 4 days and not one member of staff at breakfast said good morning let alone used my name. The Four seasons is in a much better location near the Danube and also looks stunning.

Well I wouldnt be going back to Budapest in a hurry (everyone looks unhappy and the city looks shabby) the place needs a lot of investment. I would not recommend this hotel, stay at the Four Seasons instead

I visited the New York Place with a group of girlfriends and we were completely thrilled with the hotel. The staff were so helpful - we really felt that they did everything they could to make our stay brilliant - from the upgrade to (AMAZING) suites when we arrived (without any request from us) through to advice on restaurants, taxi bookings, questions on how to get about etc. The hotel is beautiful - the atrium is stunning and the rooms are fabulous.

The spa staff were incredibly efficient (though the quality of the treatments was variable). The gym is a bit cramped and hot - though really funky! The pool is a lap pool - you couldn't get more than a couple of people in it swimming at a time.

We thought that the breakfast was good - perhaps they have read the comments!! The service in the New York Cafe was incredibly slow and the food was VERY expensive - we only ate there once!

Location was fine for us - we walked most places from the hotel and although it isn't by the river we didn't feel it was a problem. There are plenty of bars and restaurants within an easy walk of the hotel.

We would definitely recommend this hotel!

We went to Budapest in late Feb/early March for a weekend winter getaway. We were a little nervy on the way from the airport to the hotel - it was a dull day, the streets just seemed grey and uninteresting....and then we drew up outside the New York Palace Hotel! The hotel is set on the outer ring road of Budapest and it is something of a jewel in the midst of much grey and graffiti (left over from the uprising a couple of years ago, we think).

We had booked a deluxe room - and were upgraded, without requesting it, to a full suite, at the very top of the hotel, with a full-length balcony and a superb bathroom! WOW! It was a huge suite, large wardrobes, elegant sofas (yes, plural), chandeliers, fabric wallcoverings. Just lovely.

Our package included a flower bath with candles, complimentary champagne, a bottle of wine, chocolates (better than the best Belgian chocolates, I think!), a five course meal in the restaurant and room-service breakfast.

The meal was wonderful, the quality of the food fabulous and the best Tiramisu that my other half has ever tasted.

The Cafe was stunning, as were the views from the top of the hotel down through the atrium and into the lobby area.

There were just a few minor "issues" that would stop this from meriting full marks:

There were some ongoing maintenance works during the day - noisy drills and so on. We noticed this because it rained for most of our stay and so we were in our room for perhaps longer than we would normally expect to be. Had we been out and about as much as normal, it would not have been a problem because the works were, to be fair, kept to the times when the guests would normally be expected to be out.

The breakfast was not good. Not a lot of variety, not great quality.

The service at the bar was terrible on the night we tried it. Staff saw us waiting and just walked off!!! So we didn't bother again.

Overall, a great experience, a relaxing weekend in a grand hotel which would have been good value in a deluxe room, with the upgrade, the value was astonishing.

WOW, I have been home a week and would return to this hotel in an instant!

Housed in the historic New York Building in Budapest the Boscolo Hotel group spared no expense in making this a first class property!

The lobbey area is very large and spacious and check in quick and efficient. The hotel has a look and feel of understated elegence. Across the lobbey is the historic New York Cafe' a fabulous cafe from the gilded age with chandeliers and gorgeous gilded plaster work on walls and celiings.

The rooms are what you would expect from a 5 star European Hotel and are spacious and clean.

The breakfast room is not as large as some of the other Boscolo properties, but is efficiently laid out, comfortable and the staff very attentive.

My only regret is that I was unable to stay at this hotel a few more days.
