Dinner at Callas, where we dined outside on a beautiful August evening in Budapest, was a real pleasure where wine, food and music all came together to create a perfect night. The menu, which features both traditional Hungarian dishes such as Veal Paprikas and modern interpretations based on local ingredients, was thoughtful and creative. The atmosphere was delightful, with musicians (violin, piano) and vocalists presenting a variety of delightful music from Mozart to Puccini to Hungarian waltzes and folk tunes. The wine list featured a good selection of mostly Hungarian wines highlighting the talents of local vineyards. We quite happily could have eaten here every night of our stay in Budapest ( though we then would have missed out on a number of other culinary delights in this really delightful city.

I wanted to go to the Callas Cafe because they had veal paprikash on the menu and I had been wanting to try that. It was excellent as was the roast duck breast my husband ordered. For starters we had a tappas plate that included goose liver, marinated parprika, prawns, cheese and other delicacies. Including wine, beer and hard cider, the bill came to arond $85.00 US. I definitely recommend this fine restaurant, nestled under the beautiful Opera House.

Prompt and courteous service coupled with wonderful outdoor atmosphere and warm indoor dining for cooler nights can't be matched. Waiters allowed us to share meals (HUGE servings) without complaints. Food being terrific, especially the desserts, and a decent wine selection, made this a restaurant we returned to during our Budapest stay. Some nights there was also entertainment, an operatic singer and dancers, that added to the holiday spirit!

Legendary, a must. Have a look at the interior design, the walls, the bar, and try the coffee, and most of all: the sweets. Oh boy!
