We visited this place late on a Monday night, and it was still packed and the entertainment carried on late- live music and a fire dancer. The atmosphere in there was amazing! Everyone was drinking out of huge clay steins, eating with their hands and singing and laughing loudly. It really is entertaining.
After reading some reviews on trip advisor, I was under the impression that the experience and novelty far outshines 'average' food; however I found the food to be of a very good standard whilst being in keeping with the rustic medieval theme. It was nothing fancy but very tasty and absolutely huge portions! I had a turkey drumstick with potato pancakes which I would return for.
The staff were all pleasant enough and the decor was amazing. It's a good place for big groups and kids especially!
I will definitely return!

My second time there, for business, first time a few years ago we just had a few beers nothing spectacular, but this time we had diner, and meat lover, I must say that I hadn't had such good meat in years. Just for this I'll get Bach there next time in Budapest. And yes the medieval setting is a plus.

Disclaimer: I love a good well-done themed restaurant.

I love my history and the best man of our excessively-sized stag group stumbled across this medieval-inspired place when given the unenviable task of herding 27 stags in a foreign city.

We were put in a private dining room in the basement in this cavernous place. He had pre-ordered for us for administrative ease. The feel was authentic in decor and artifacts on the wall including spears, swords and armour (the headpieces were inevitably worn).

On arrival there was a beer and a schnapps waiting in lovely ceramic pots.

We were then served leek & potato soup with bread inside a bread bowl. I did note we were only given a knife and spoon - no forks in the days of John of Gaunt. The soup was delicious and I filled myself up with most of the bread bowl to be honest. More than I should have had.

The main was a duck leg on a bed of vegetables. The portion size was ENORMOUS - far too much for all 26 of us that actually made it to Budapest. What was pleasing from the historical accuracy perspective was the richness of the meat - meat would have been untreated back then and so flavours would have been far more natural/

The only disappointment was the dessert platters - I am fairly fussy on desserts and have a limited palette for them. That said they were pre-ordered in that way so there could be no fault on the restaurant's part.

After dessert we were treated to a belly dance. The rest of the restaurant (over 3 floors) was similarly themed with appropriate cabaret entertainment - which seemed to be in English.

The service to our group was first class. We paid something like £26 each - given there were probably 4 drinks each and wholesome rich food that represents something of a bargain.

Such a beautiful city does not deserve to only be visited on a stag do and so I hope to go back with the more appropriate company of my girlfriend. I very much hope to bring her here.
