Walking ticket is a safe bet. The castle is nicely renovated in places, rooms are ok with the occasional weird stuffed black cat.... or chickens. Just creepy. It's more on the smaller side. Lots of remodelling, very little original parts. View from the top is beautiful but most of the ruins in Hungary are nicer and bigger. Szigliget is the best!

The castle is very interesting and they have done a great job on the presentation and education. There is a newer section that is within the cellar of the castle that was extremely well done.

This castle is rich in history especially for Hungarians. But for outside visitors, this castle is anything but impressive. If you are looking for a great looking castle, disappointment is the operative word here. To the castle's credit, the ramparts do offer a sweeping view of the Eger city down below.

This is one of the major attraction of Eger and I am sure any visitor will give it a chance. It is not a colossal construction nor had it any outstanding architectural glamour but the history behind it was amusing i.e. its successful defense under the leadership of Istvan Dobo back in 1552 defeating a far superior Turkish army (at least in number). The museum was worth a visit with a lot of history and artifacts of bygone days. And the splendid view of the City Centre of Eger was actually the real bonus. I did not visit the Wax museum of the novel of the Eclipse of the Crescent Moon though, something probably more fitting for the younger generation. Directions in the castle however could be a little clearer for the benefit of visitors.

Really nice view from the tower. Castle is small enough and an hour to visit is plenty. The entry ticket is 3 euro and worth the view but not much else to see. We didn't go inside to the museum which is additional fee.
