“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 23 March 2012

Whilst it may not be comparable to other monasteries in Europe it is the best that Hungary has to offer and is well worth a visit. It is sited spectacularly on a hill, dominating the landscape for miles around.and the star attractions are the basilica and library. BUty a bottle of the local wines produced by the monks - its good.

“A place must to see”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

Beautiful surroundings, great atmosphere. Unfortunately we could not enter the main building, because it was closed, so give a call before you visit.

“Out of the way”
Reviewed 26 September 2011

Took a train from Gyor to visit, then took the long walk up to the abbey, no taxis, it was early December though. Parts of the abbey are beautiful and old, but it has been rebuilt over the years. An interesting place to visit if you had a lot of time in the area, otherwise use the time and explore Gyor some more.

“absolutly overated place”
Reviewed 24 June 2011

The monastery has been almost completly rebuilt in recent years, the only section that shows some old gothic parts is the church. Probably the most beautiful parts are not accessible so it's not really worted a visit. It is way under the unesco site standard.
the library is Interesting, so are some of the oldest documents of ancient hungarian language.
