Bratislava Day Trip from Vienna
Reviewed 8 November 2013

A fun break from Vienna, we took the only boat at 8:30 am. You would have to reserve ahead for the front 3 seats and it comes with a premium in price. I think it is not necessary in the summer as you can step outside. On cold weather, the front seats are advantageous. The trip takes 70 min long, and is passes through some scenic views. On the way back we took the train, it took about the same time but no views at half the price. Bratislava is a beatiful city, with small city charm. Away from touristy Vienna, with young, vibrant locals and a sad Communist history but promising future. A way to end is to have a drink at the rooftop Sky Bar with gorgeous views

Disappointingly the. Oat was taken out if service last weekend for the winter season. Recommences in April . Hugely disappointed as went on this boat to Vienna last year and it was a real thrill! The Danube is, in parts, quote a narrow river and to jet up there at 70kmph feels it faster! Great experience. Do it!!

This mode of transportation is a little more expensive but takes you from center city to center city. The hydrofoil is quite and smooth with comfortable seats. We traveled on a cool day so stayed in the main cabin but deck seats were available. Look into reserved seating at the front of the boat - you get a great view of the river. We chose to take the train back to Vienna which is about half the price and you get to see the land area between the two cities. Available on the boat is a city tour package (10 euros) which is great for no other reason than it takes you to the top of the hill overlooking Bratislava. The price includes a half hour walking tour of the old city. Our guide spent more than an hour with us. If you take the train back use the bus to get to the station (.70 euros - $1 approx.) it is too far to walk after a day of sightseeing.

We booked a day trip to Bratislava from Vienna which meant an hour or so long coach trip there from Vienna and the return by boat on the Danube, which took about 1 and a half hours. The guide who showed us around was pretty hopeless, but did lead us around this pretty little town. You could see just about everything in 4-5 hours by foot as this is not a big place. The trip cost us 69 euros, but as the coach would have cost 8 euros, the boat 30 euros and the guide 10 euros (according to the tariff at the tourist information by the dock) and we had a lovely 3 course lunch and were picked up direct from our hotel, we could not have made the trip for much less independently. All in all, it was very enjoyable.

We travelled in early October to Vienna. Turned up the day before to buy a ticket this was at the port and the office is to the left of the entrance past the shops (don't assume the company on the right is the only option) this was €20 each for one way and we also bought a bus ticket to return to Bratislava €7.20 each. The helpful chap in the office clearly explained where to pick up the bus (Erdberg) as it's in a different place to where the hydrofoil lands. We also spent €20 each on the Vienna sightseeing bus which is a hop on hop off tour and would thoroughly recommend. We had an excellent time in Vienna and it was the highlight of our trip.
