LOFT Hotel Bratislava

Certificate of Excellence

It was a pleasure and a privilege to stay at the Loft Hotel. We like this hotel a lot and the kids still talk about it.

You can tell almost everything about a hotel from the lobby- and we were impressed with the lobby at the Loft. Big chunky furniture, large comfy leather sofas, all modern and stylish. The bookshelves in the lobby with lots of coffee table books was a great feature.

All hotels should have those "international" clocks behind reception- so you can tell the time in London as well as Hong Kong!

Staff throughout the hotel were friendly, polite, and unassuming people. It was explained to us that as we'd arrived hours before check-in time- there'd be a wait for the room- and we were shown a space for our luggage.

By the time we'd had delicious lunch at one of the hotel's excellent bars- the room was ready.

You know you're onto a winner when on entering the room the first words uttered are wow!
Spacious, very stylishly furnished, huge comfortable soft inviting beds, lovely view of the park and presidential palace. The sofas doubled as extra beds- apart from the 4 beds already in this huge family room- so we could (and did) play "musical beds" at some point.

There was free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and no fussy passwords.

There was a complementary mini-bar as well as tea making facilities.

We loved the bathroom. Faux-leather tiles, uber stylish fittings. The bath was bigger than usual, very modern, an unusual shape. There were toiletries set out in sets of 4- as there were 4 of us. Very thoughtful.

We loved the glass-fronted staircase going down the side of the building as an alternative to the lifts.

We loved having the park beside the hotel- very handy for children or walks.

By far the best feature if you ask me- were the bars. Particularly the beer "pub" at the entrance to the hotel. Exposed brickwork, lovely artefacts dotted about, shelves of speciality beers and spirits, and what a brilliant idea- sacks of roasted peanuts in their shells on each table- to nibble on before your starter arrives.

This hotel ticks all the boxes.

If we could add one thing- it would be a complementary mini-bus to pick people up from the airport. Well we do like to dream.

We only stayed one night but it was an excellent one. A perfect choice for a relatively small price. Everything was included in the price except a parking spot. The street is very busy and you cannot find a free parking spot. Except this everything was great. THe WiFi is free. There was a complimentary minibar included in the price. The bathroom was very clean, you have a hair dryer, toothbrush, toothpaste, bath sponge, and so on. The room is spacious, you have a desk with all the necessary writing tools, a big closet, 3 big mirrors. The breakfast, also included in the price was diversified, very well cooked, lots of choices. The personnel is very friendly, they speak english and they explained what are the main attractions and important places to visit. The Hotel also has a restaurant/pub and a wine cellar. Nothing bad to report.

We stayed for two nights here, it is a lot nicer than the pictures look, probably the nicest hotel I've stayed in. Location is about 5 mins walk from the old town centre, just behind the palace. Beds were amazingly comfortable, best nights sleep ever. Only down side was that we had two single beds pushed up next to each other so not the best for snuggling up to the Mrs as you might fall down the middle. Would definitely stay here again, loved every minute.

Only back from our stay in the loft hotel could not say anything bad about it was very clean rooms nice and spacious only thing the bath could do with a hand rail for the more mature traveller staff helpful if you need directions but it is only a ten minute walk to the old town and same to train station where you can get the bus to and from the airport which only cost 90cents but make sure to validate your ticket as also there's a little bar not far from hotel called Bernard which is the name of the beer as well a half litre is 1euro 15 cent but most beer is around the 2euro 20 cents we took the boat up to Vienna for day trip and you can walk down to the port from hotel around 20 minutes walk it's a small city so two or three days would be plenty for a stay here just like to add air conditioning not great so keep in mind when booking

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the gardens which was grand and quiet

We stayed 4 nights here. The location was good (5-10 minute walk north of Old Town) for proximity, though there is not much going on in the area immediately around the hotel - it abuts the Presidential complex and the street is quite quiet. We walked to Bratislava castle, UFO bridge, Slavin Memorial, etc. There's a nice bar/cafe. They were doing some renovations when we were there. Would definitely recommend. We found a great price through Expedia.

I stayed only for one night so this is far from extensive review, but first impressions with hotels are normally the ones that stay with you.

PROS:

FACILITIES: As modern as hotels come. It's like walking into a show home. Über cool bar and patio on the ground floor (didn't get a chance to go there unfortunately). Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. No iron or board - I'm sure that could be easily arranged.

STAFF amazingly attentive and friendly in my dealings with them.

COOL STUFF: FREE mini bar ??! 2 bottles of beer, 2 still and 2 fizzy waters and a can of Pepsi. What's not to like?! First time on my travels I have ever heard of such a thing.

Some little extras in the bathroom that are normally for very exclusive hotels. I particularly liked a small sponge for the bath, nice touch.

SECURITY: Superb. Internal access to corridors and lift only accessible by active key card. In room safe.

BREAKFAST: It wasn't part of my booking and can't really see the value in it at 10 Euros when I have just paid 11 euros for 3 beers, 2 wines and a main course at the Slovak pub 10 minutes walk away.

LOCATION: About 10 minutes walk from the old town. You can make a short cut to the Main Street by going down the side street the hotel is on and keep going in the same direction (5 mins walk, cross a main road and a staggered junction just to your right)

CONS:

I am actually typing this from the hotel (is that cheating?). Staying in a mini heat wave (23 degrees at night). The air con is completely useless and just a background noise.

The obligatory squirty shower gel is sage based and smells like you are bathing in Jaegermeister.

The photos on the website I used (expedia) are deceptive. The room I got was a decent sized hotel room, but not the studio apartment promised by the photos.

I booked a kingsize bed and they just squashed two 'queen' sized together. If I book a king sized bed it means I want to sprawl out!!

Summary: Very modern hotel with facilities to match the best chains (it is a chain - abba?).

Would stay again, just not in a heat wave.

The hotel was nicely situated close to the city centre and train station. The hotel reception, bar and restaurant look like the have been newly refurbished. The look and feel of the hotel is very nice after the refurbishment work this year. We also loved the food in the restaurant when we had lunch on arrival.
The down sides I found were the beds were awful, they were 2 beds pushed together, the shower leaked over the floor due to poor shower glass and there was a terrible smell from the air con unit. The air con unit wasn't very powerful on the full setting which was a shame because it was 30 degrees in Bratislava when we stayed.

All in all not to bad..I would stay again..but they need to address the finer points to earn the 4 stars this hotel has.
