The views from the tower are amazing, but they are similar from the castle grounds. The castle was destroyed, so this is just a replica built in 1950. Inside is not impressive, currently it an art gallery. I am not one for sketches so I wished I saved my 6 euro.

It's a pretty steep climb up but you're rewarded by a fantastic view of the Danube beneath the UFO tower. Recover your breath in the main square with the imposing equestrian statue in front of the Castle . The castle itself is disappointingly bare because it's under renovation and most visitors wouldn't be interested in a blow-by-blow account of the renovation process.
However, the paintings inside ( have to climb long flights of stairs again and again so not exactly elder-friendly) are worth browsing , most with themes from the Bible and in Caravaggio fashion of contrasts in light and darkness though there are some surprising depictions (Coriolanus, Cato II and his suicide), portraits of Hapsburg royalty Marie Therese, Josef II, Sissi, Prince Eugene of Savoy.
By the time one is finished with the staircases and scrutiny of paintings and tapestries, there isn't much stamina left for the Crown Tower which I hear is a misnomer, not the Imperial treasures but something less spectacular.
I didn't wait to find out because there's still the climb down and in bright sunshine. After all, most visitors seemed content to take photographs in the grounds and not even enter the Castle which charges a very small fee (3 euros for senior).
