“Comfortable and in a perfect location for the old town”
Reviewed 24 August 2009

A modern hotel with a 3 star rating which it easily justifies. The rooms are compact, but clean and comfortable with well appointed bathrooms, multi-channels and pay tv. There is free internet in reception or you can pay for wireless in the rooms. Breakfast was very good and the hotel bar prices are competitive - but why would you bother? The location is about 3 minutes walk from the centre of the Old Town which has masses of street cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs. A good base for a cultural or romantic weekend, or a boys trip out on the lash.

Ibis Hotels used to be good rooms, if a little basic, but at a good value price. Alas, these days the rooms are the same, adequate in most respects, but the prices are not the good value they used to be. We stayed here one night while en-route from Prague to Budapest. The hotel seemed expensive for what it offered, compared to others we used in the other capital cities where we got higher standards for the same money or less.

However, the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was OK, standard stuff, nothing special. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel so can't comment on the restaurant service or food. The big plus-point for this hotel is the location. It is great for the Castle and the old town, minutes walking from both. It's not easy to drive to the hotel round the one-way system, but setting off again the next day south-bound out of the city could not be easier.

So, Ok for one night, but not somewhere I'd want to spend too long in.

10 minute bus ride from train station then 2 block walk to the hotel. You need to buy the 15 minute bus pass and then take bus 93 to 3rd stop which is Zachova. It was a little confusing for us at first. Great location. Walking distance to the castle and old town (10 min) Rooms were clean, comfortable but very basic. It also had free internet in the lobby. Overall, we would stay there again.

This hotel is within walking distance of the castle and the old town (as long as you can manage hills and steps) We found the rooms clean but had only one small bath towel each which makes it a bit basic if you want to wash your hair. and you dont get a hairdryer which would be helpful now that its so expensive to book luggage on airlines and like us, we travel with hand luggage so space is limited.
We decided to eat in the old town out of choice as the hotel breakfast is very expensive. I would have liked to get a coffee or tea delivered to the room but you have to go to the 24hour bar in reception and get it yourself.
We spent a great day in Vienna. It takes 1 hour by train and you get the underground U1 to the centre where you can get a horse and carraige ride.
You have to pay a local tax when you check out.
I notice some people said the trams were noisy but they are servicing the tunnel so no trams are running on that line and wont be for a while.

Bratislava is a quaint little city and this hotel was perfect for our stay there. It was a nice Ibis, what you would expect from a chain hotel--standard, clean, nice, but nothing luxurious. We stayed in a three person room since my wife and I were traveling with my mother-in-law, which was gigantic. It had the most amazing view (see pictures). That was without a doubt the best part of the hotel. It is in a great location, a very short walk to everything in the city. It is right next to the Bratislava Castle and close to the downtown where there are little shops as well as St. Martin's church which you can tour and is beautiful on the inside. One attraction I would recommend would be the clock museum which was very interesting.

The hotel staff were nice, but we had heard before we went that people here in general are not as friendly and outgoing as Americans might expect. It is just a different way of comportment, which might seem a bit unfriendly, but once you get used to it you realize that they are actually quite nice and helpful.

Breakfast at the hotel was quite expensive (I think around 15 euros per person). Though expensive, it was a good hot and cold buffet breakfast, and it was convenient as well. There are not a bunch of restaurants in Bratislava, and many of them are pretty expensive, so we ended up just doing the hotel breakfast.

Overall, a great hotel in a perfect location. We definitely enjoyed our stay there.

Wow. When you drive into Bratislava across the bridge there are some signs to help you find this place. They are not conclusive though and they are not very accurate. They point you in one direction, but the hotel is NOT THERE! So bring a map if you are driving. The staff was ok in the friendliness department and the rooms were very small. This city is not the nicest and the area looks run down a block away (looks like what I'd imagine russia after wwII). There are missing windows in buldings and unfinished construction projects. But, I felt pretty safe the whole time I was there. We walked around at night, just the two of us (one male and female 27 years old) right out the hotel across the bridge to where the restaurants were. We also went to a professional hockey game - which was less than $8 usd for 2 tickets, beers and sausage. That was the best part of the trip! That was with the SKK currency and I guess they are going to the Euro now, so we will see what happens with this little city! Oh and if you do have a car, there is a garage underneath the hotel - and there are 2 security doors - so your car will be extremely safe.

stayed here for four nights in december . the hotel is in a very good location close to the old town and the public transport system. if youve ever stopped in a ibis hotel you know excatly what you are getting . good basic clean hotels . the recption staff where helpfull and spoke good english . the only real problems with the hotel is its very close to the tram lines and there is quite a lot of noise from this and the trams start very early about 4.00 .also the hotel bar is very close to recption when we arrived at 23.00 there was a large amount of smoke in the recption area but this seems the norm all over bratislava in fact its the worst place ive ever been for smoking made worse because its winter and all the doors and windows are shut . so good budget hotel but there is a lot of tram noise and the smoke in recption can be a bit off putting . if youre a non smoker but there was no smell of smoke in the bedrooms .

  • Liked — clean ness
  • Disliked — smoke in recption
